Hi All

I have ventured into the world of true home cinema and updating my sony dav all in one to an onkyo 607 with q acoustics 1050i speaker package. Included in the package is qed micro speaker cable and a standard sub cable, now the store i am looking to order from say there is no need for banana plugs and that i can just cut the wire as required and hard wire in. So my question is - is this sound advice?

Thanks in advance :)

I would say - NO (definitely not at the Amp end)

Very fiddly and you lose the simplicity of being able to unplug when (and it will) the time arises.

Regards.

Agreed. Also you run the risk of shorting with untidy wire strands.

It makes everything much tidier, but it's an added expense. I've never used them, and am on my second amp (and have moved house 6 times, and re-wired probably another 4 times over the years) and never had a short. Perhaps I'm just more careful.... Interested to see if anyone has actually had a short? Most amps have an over-ride so they shut down in case of a short anyway?

hmmmm so 6 to 1 and half a dozen to the other?

does anyone have this setup with equipment and have any input? are you happy etc? i was considering the sony 2400 with jamo 102s but due to the stock problems and given approval to spend a little more hence the extra spend! i'm looking for a big improvement over my old dav system which currently plays everything from the tv through a optical lead.

Adding bananas into the mix could slightly deteriorate sound quality. Personally I use good quality silver plated spades as I believe the connections slightly better than bananas

Any bare copper wires (if that is indeed what theyre made of) will 'oxidise' so I squirt copper with 'DEOXIT' to prevent it.

I actually HAVE shorted an old kenwood amp and it auto cut out and still works fine to this day. It was when I did this that I found the gold plated plugs I was using were in fact degrading the sound a little which is why I now use decent silver plated ones (Sold my Kenwood amp years ago).
