Thanks for the info Rik. Seems like they can make a difference. Just wondering if it does anything about the variations in voltage. I'll be interested to hear how they perform. Anyone tried them with the Quantum units?

Sorry, just picked up on the posts!

The balanced mains supply units will improve after running in. They divide current equally between the + and - feeds, the larger the transformer VA rating the smoother the output.

What they don't do is deal with over / under voltages, that requires additional components.

A interesting comment Chris about the BT units.
I find that with mine being fed off a 40A wire gauge radial (20A CB) along with a strong 'True Earth' and a hard wired Tacima block the mains output off them is as good as it can be in my home.

The BT units do not run a Balanced mains supply, but they deal with surges, filtering and smoothing by use of a transformer, surge protection AND mains capacitors.

Really pleased that you have discovered the improvements to your system already.

So what happens if say the voltage is 228? +115 -113?

The transformer divides the voltage and it remains balanced despite fluctuations in the supply.
Running two legs of 110v puts less stress on equipment so it runs better with a longer life expectancy.

UK electrical equipment is designed to run at 220v, any more than that is a waste of energy.

That's OK. UK mains voltage is set around 240v. That's higher than it needs to be.

There's a big energy saving drive with grants available to industry and commerce to reduce voltages down to 220v as well as cleaning it up.
Take a look at these guys...http://powerstar.co.uk/voltageoptimisation.html
They have an impressive list of customers enjoying savings up to 26%!

Who says cleaning up the mains makes no difference?

Unfortunately we domestic consumers cannot reduce the Mains voltage, but we can do everything else!

Just wondering how people are getting on with their Airlink Balance Power Supplies? Do they make a big difference to the sound? Do the units themselves generate any noise?

I'm still experimenting with mine and so far it seems better working on its own without my Isotek mains conditioner running from it. It is still a bit noisy though. It has improved in that respect since I first had it so I am hoping it will improve further as time passes.
