Bought these yesterday, £1 each. Quite old recordings but after a dip in the Knosti with some L' Art du Son they look and sound new.

Elgar Violin Concerto in B Minor Op.61 - Nigel Kennedy / London Philharmonic

Elgar String Quartet in E Minor Op. 83, Vaughan-Williams String Quartet No 1 in G Minor - Aeolian String Quartet

Elgar Symphony No 1 in A Flat Major Op.55 - Philharmonia / Barbirolli

Elgar Enigma Variations, Vaughan-Williams Fantasia On A Theme - Philharmonia / Sargent

Corelli Concerto Grosso No 8 "Pour la nuit de Noel", Vivaldi Sonata in re mineur - Janos Starker and Marilyn Mayer

Nice. I'm not a great fan of Elgar myself, but those are some good finds, especially at that price, and probably some pretty decent performances as well.

Hi Scarlet, I'm not particularly an Elgar fan, in fact I'm still discovering what classical music I like / don't like. But when albums are so cheap I can afford to take risks to explore different composers, soloists and conductors. So I'm slowly putting together a collection of classical music I do like - so far that includes Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Prokofiev, Mahler and some of the baroque composers like Corelli. And I'm quite enjoying the Elgar, especially the Nigel Kennedy performance.

In the main, I find that classical collectors tend to look after their albums so most of the secondhand classical albums I come across are in fairly good nick. Usually after a quick clean they're almost as good as new.

I'm just envious that you've got a good supply of cheap classical LPs! I bought a load from charity shops 20-odd years ago, but now the good ones are few and far between and tend to be snapped up by ebayers or Oxfam, who sell them on at silly prices. Will keep looking for a local source, though. And enjoy your discovery of classical music!

Popped out to Tesco for cat food and broccoli, came back with Sgt Pepper's. As she scanned it, the nice old lady at the checkout said "they're coming back you know". I had to check that she meant vinyl records and not the Fab Four...

It sounds pretty good, getting better all the time, in fact...

Glad you're enjoying it. To my surprise the Abbey Road release and some I have from their Jazz series released earlier are well pressed with limited surface noise.

Whitesnake 25th Anniversary edition, the white disc looks pretty, sounds pretty good. Well, I'm only on the third track, but it's promising. Will have to check it against my Greatest Hits cd.

Last week I was suprised with a great box full of beautiful vinyl from a friend, including the remasterd version of Tales of Mystery and Imagination of Alan Parsons Project. So I have both versions.

Also a lot of Dire Straits, Eagles, KISS, The Nylons and lots of others great stuff. Kenny Rogers was also in the box, but gave it away. Not my taste...

Resina – Resina (experimental cello and electronics)
Scott Walker – Childhood of a Leader o.s.t. (utterly brutal orchestral score)

Ordered a couple of months ago, only managed to pick them up today.

(2012) 180 gram Remaster.

Have three other original 1983 copies of this but have been after this one for a while. Completes my remastered collection of the Fish era albums.

Bill Evans - New Jazz Conceptions (reissued new vinyl on DOL label). Sounds brilliant.

John Mayall Blues Breakers - Bare Wires (secondhand) sounds crackly in places, hoping a good wash with L' Art du Son will clean that up.

Out in Soho this afternoon, couldn't walk past Sounds of the Universe without popping in to buy some devilishly good vinyl, the temptation was too great.

Fela Kuti & Africa 70 - Alagbon Close

Fela Kuti & Africa 70 - He Miss Road

Plus a bit of New Orleans soul, Betty Harris - Mean Man (45rpm single)

Legends - A (possibly deleted) double LP compilation on Cambra label featuring tracks by John Mayall / Bluesbreakers, T S McPhee, Eric Clapton (also with Jimmy Page), Jo-Ann Kelly, Stone's Masonry, Savoy Brown Blues Band, Jeremy Spencer and Dharma Blues Band.

The Core of Rock - compilation on MGM label featuring tracks by Richie Havens, The Enemies, Tim Hardin, Janis Ian, The Blues Project and Van **** Parks.

Roxy Music - Flesh and Blood

I think a dip in the Knosti / L' Art du Son and we're off to the races...

Since I bought any vinyl. My last purchase was Opeths new album, and I really wasn't that bothered at all. So I stuck that on eBay.

Today, I stuck to what I know.

I bought, Death- Human

and Carcass- Heartwork.

Ordered on music magpie, free delivery and 10% off.

Flanders and Swann - At The Drop Of A Hat

Wow, that's quite some haul, there. Some excellent symphonies, and a few I don't know. And Flanders and Swann to round it off, wonderful. Hope they're in good nick.

My haul was a lot smaller, but no less welcome:
Julia Holter – In The Same Room
Anna Calvi – Live at Meltdown

The Anna Calvi is an RSD special – it's her first album in 4 years, and my lovely shop owner managed to get an extra copy after his original stock all sold out on the day. Looking forward to hearing them both tomorrow.

hi, I'm intrigued to hear how the Carcass record sounds. I've just bought the Human reissue and think it sounds incredible. Assume the heartwork is the FDR?
