Hi BBB. You're right, I've never been a fan of electronic stuff

Thanks for your recommendation: I'll report back in the not too distant future.

What did you think of it JIm?

I'm no electronica expert so it's hard to know what to listen out for; I thought it was often pretty, beautiful even, with the creation of nice soundscapes. I'm sure it would sound lovely on a decent system. BUT and I have a big but (!), although it sounds nice, that's it: it exists within a sort of bubble of 'niceness' and prettiness but it doen't move me like, as a deliberate contrast, Son House with just his voice and a guitar singing 'Death Letter Blues' or Keith Jarrett's lyrical solo piano improvisations. My point? It lacks humanity and soul and it doesn't offer me anything emotionally. Beauty for the sake of beauty. Well, that's ok, lovely even, but one listen is enough. I hate to disappoint people so I'm sorry, BBB. I enjoyed listening to it anyway. I hope we can still be friends!

Fair enough Jim

I think what I like about it IS it's lack of emotion, lack of warmth, lack of soul, I just love how totally electronic it sounds. I have albums by Chemical Brothers, Kraftwerk, even Boards Of Canada, but none of them sound so alien as that Autechre album.

I guess it's just a phase I'm going through. *smile*

A little afterthought. Try 'Roygbiv' by Boards Of Canada, I could listen to that forever, and as alien and electronic as it sounds, it's a very emotive piece of music.

Went to a local auction this morning and bought a lot of over 200 Classical records for £4.

bet neighbours love you

She's old, so I think she apprecates classical more than Sonic Youth and Discharge. *smile*

Listening to it now. It has to be my most favourite album of the 90s, and that's up against some stiff competition.

Bad Manners - Ska n' B (to replace a poor copy I already had)

Bhundu Boys - True Jit (to replace a copy I had, but stupidly sold)

Suzanne Vega - Solitide Standing (because I forgot I already had it)

Bhundu Boys - True Jit

I love the Bhundu Boys, but I must admit that album really disappointed me. It seemed they lost all their jit after they moved to England, although their early Peel sessions were wonderful.

Must stick one of their first two albums on tomorrow.

I read a blog by their only surviving member a few years ago, and it was really disillusioning - utterly bitter about everything that happened (manager ripped them off, record company ripped them off, etc). Definitely tainted their music slightly for me.

ps: do you know the Four Brothers? Their first two albums, Makorokoto (a compilation of their early Zim releases) and Bros, are every bit as good as the Bhundus.

That could be the reason why I originally sold it, though I remember 'Jit Jive' being a decent track.

No surprise that a band would get ripped off, it's always happened, and will continue to while you've got total utter c***s like Simon Cowell anywhere near the music business.

I've heard of the Four Brothers, but never actually heard them. I'll keep my eye out for them.

I've just ordered an album by Lonely Robot called Please Come Home, but will have to wait for delivery as it's not released until Monday 23rd.

Lonely Robot is a new project by the highly prolific guitarist/singer John Mitchell, who has been involved in many bands that I like such as It Bites and Arena and features a large number of guest singers and musicians from the British music scene of the last 30 years or so. I've only listened to the soundclips on iTunes, but I'm liking what I've heard so far.

Got 3 thin lizzy albums and one iron maiden for £22 on vinyl from the local record store (used)

then went to another place and bought 7 CDs, for £22 including 2 opeth albums, korn, ministry, tool, il Nino and the darkness.

Excellent days shopping.
