Everybody thinks "their" amp is best (not surprisingly)...

I think Electro's amps are the best among our forumites.

You are very kind Vladimir and possibly right *biggrin* , but then I would say that wouldn't I.

I am not going to say mine are the best how could I possibly know, but I can say that I have heard nothing better in my lifetime at any price.

Actually the star of the show is the EC 4.8 preamp, It is the most transparent preamp I have ever heard, it is quite special and the sound quality competes with the best at any price imo and also in many other people's.

http://www.dagogo.com/electrocompaniet-ec-4-8-preamplifier-review

The AW180's are absolute beasts but they are also as delicate as a butterly, it is rare that an amp can be so good at doing everything so well, everybody that has heard them has been very impressed indeed.

Except ellis lol

Really! That surprises me, he seemed to appreciate what they did when he was here although he was not that impressed with the room acoustics at the time or my cables *biggrin* .

It was ellis that inspired me to experiment and improve my room acoustics which I have done with amazing results.

I think ellis has a very different ideal sound type to me, he wants to hear every detail in the recording to the nth degree up close and personal with ultra focus, the perfect HiFi with the most high definition possible and his system seems to reflect that aim to me.

I prefer a live music sound with the best possible dynamics and a sound that adds the venue to the room like an extension rather than bring the performers into the room, I want a huge soundstage with good focus and detail but not loosing the music and live feel in the process, I am not a detail freak only a music freak ( no offence to anyone *smile* )

There is no right or wrong it's all about what you prefer, if we all liked the same thing it would all be very boring.

If you are ever in the mood you are welcome to judge my system for yourself.*good*

I don't consider that mini amp even in the same league. I burn through 30W with sealed enclosure speakers like elephant eating 30 peanuts. Dynamic compression would bother me especially with classical music.

Provided you use a speaker that is efficient (90 dB+) and has plummeting impedance (around 3 Ohms), then you are getting much more than 30W (as it doubles power as impedance halves, down to 2 Ohms).

The amp goes louder than my hearing can stand in a large room...just ask Iceman if you don't believe me. *music2*

Are you sure it's not a headphone amp?
are they by any chance Felco Secateurs used for gardening you have at the bottom of your post Vladimir ? *yes3*

Spring time is garden time. The mad barber with the red secateurs is now out in the open.

I would like to try them but they dont fit in my limited space.

They seemed good enough to me just limited by the room acoustics and cables...
Cheap cables were killing electros should be more focused sound :)

Not my fault if his generation prefer boom tizz ......

Thats a joke btw

Electrocompaniet Nemo (AW600) block was designed by Per Abrahamsen to drive the B&W Nautilus, 8 monoaural blocks in a full setup to be precise. Each Nemo is consisted of two AW180s in bridge mode. It really is no compromise high end stuff.

The problem with going low in quantity of amplification and charging as much because of some special quality you deem you've gained, is that you can suffer on the other end of this homeopathy concept. Flea watt valve guys are manic about how superior their amps sound to anything, ever. They look at a 30W integrated like it's a childs plastic Korg synthesizer. But what can you do with 3W? "Well, you need 200dB efficient speaker, it has to be with 300kg alnico magnet, 50ft horns, purple lepricon jackets used as foil in the crossover capacitors, and the moon has to be in the right place...". Come on.

Yummy!

Ever considered a full wall to wall curtain behind the system? Should boost the dramatic feel of the room.

Have you taken any REW measurements to see what they have done?

You need to see what your bass response at your MLP - thats critical job number 1 mate

Yes I am probably going to put some loose curtains to cover the back wall and the rather small telly, and also behind my listening position to cover some folding wood and glass doors that are about two metres behind the chair, I am also thinking about some diffusion on the ceiling in front of the speakers.

You want the diffusion behind the listening position - look up Acoustic Fields, lots of vids on YT

Dont forget your sitting near the middle of the room - the place with the least bass hence measuing it to see what your getting as being number 1 importance

You have a big enough room that is dedicated to setup following the Rule of Thirds - that is well worth considering

I have done no measurements whatsoever it has all been many hours of experimentation, listening and learning my room, much of it is pure instinct and some luck thrown in.

The absorption lying on the floor was a gift courtesy of my boys who took great joy in running into my room and pushing over a couple of my rolls to wind me up but after a couple of time I realized they sounded better on the floor to that is where I put them.*smile*

I have got it to a point when there are no audible ( to me ) bass nulls or peaks and you can walk around the room and the sound remains the same.

I think there is a frequency peak in the area that controls imaging but it is so nice I am loathed to get rid of it as it sounds so wonderful.

I t would be interesting to measure it to see how well ( or badly ) I have done.

Well Electro - I was going to make a silly joke about people standing around covered in curtains (and how did you manage to keep them still etc)

But then I like to think I am mature in my humour ( and not discriminatory in any way)

tonky (shakes head)

That was my point/joke
And ellis knows what i mean
He couldnt enjoy it (or relax) because of the cables.

Id love to hear your system but i dont need to, to know the quality.

Give me your dimensions and where exactly the mlp is and I will do a quick guestimate for you
