Hi,

Due to a upcoming house move and the need to save space I'm looking for a high quality integrated amp to replace my MF seperates system.

The MF has been a cracking system and I'd like to get as close to it's performance as possible. I don't know how acheivable this will be with an integrated in this price range.

So far I've been thinking of:

Bryston B100-SST

Leema Tucana 2

Audio Analogue Maestro Settanta

Hegel H160 (new/ex dem)

Marantz PM11-S3 (or S2)

As it'll be a second hand purchase demoing may be difficult although I would hope to secure a good deal on any of the above to hopefully prevent too much of a loss if I need to sell on.

Speakers are PMC 23 speakers.

Anyone have any thoughts on the above and the synergy with the PMCs? Also any general comments on how the above might compare to each other? Any other suggestions for integrated amps in this price point c.£2k 2nd hand?

Current MF system specs -

A308CR Pre amp

A5CR Power Amp - 255 watts

Many thanks

You don't mention what sources you need to use, for example, do you need a phono input or would you like digital inputs?

Some suggestions:

New - Yamaha A-S2100

Used - Cyrus Lyric 9

Used - Gato DIA 250

TBA - Leema Quasar?

Of the amps you list the Hegel H160 would definitely be my preference, you could also add the Electrocompaniet ECI 5 mk1 or mk2 to your list, if you are lucky you might find an s/h ECI6D with a built in dac for £2000 but they rarely come up for sale.

I can tell you from personal experience that Electrocompaniet and PMC work extremely well together *smile*

Thanks for the replies and suggestions all.

Front end is Sonos Connect/Macbook Pro into MF M1DAC.

I would love to go down the Accuphase or Luxman route but unfortunately they're just out of reach price wise at the moment while we buying a house. All being well I hope to own one of these after the next amp!

Electro, interesting to hear you say that the Hegel would be your preference out of the above. I do like the look of the H160 and convenience it brings being all in one. Have you compared it with many amps around the same price at all? Like Supernait (2) or MF M6i?

I bought an MF M6i some time ago which was ok but was quite a way off the sound of my seperates system so would hope to better the M6i if possible.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Leema PMC combination?

Plenty of Accuphase here for under £2k.

They are lovely amps.

Go on, treat yourself.

I would look for the most powerfull amp with the connectivity you need. My money would go into Quad power amp [ Elite QSP] and passive pre http://www.akustyk.com/index.html

.. but if you really need to remove some boxes then Hegel H160 is a great amp and an easy recommendation. You could get rid of MF dac and leave Sonos/ Hegel/ PMC

I wouldn't choose boutique brands as these are often unnecessarily overpriced.

I also used to own a MF M1DAC and imo it's quite the bottleneck. As for the Supernait 2, many people rate it, I used to own one, but it was lacking some magic imo. It does hi-fi stuff quite well, but I think theSN1 was more funky and warmer. SN2 is airier, so if you're into that kind of thing, it's one to consider. Also, many rate the Hegel H160, and the functionality it gives is pretty neat imo.

That E407 would get into my circa half a million Yen, over 20kg amplifier club.

If it's genuine, the OP should buy it. Sadly there's a high chance that if you contact the seller you will either get no response or it will magically move to the Outer Hebrides.
