Altas Hyper 2.0, QED Revelation, Chord Odyssey 2 or even QED X Tube 400?

I hear both these cables are a step up from my current Chord silverscreen.....but which would give the best results?

I enjoy the extra bass and 'maturity' the Chord cable has given me, but crave more detail and 'life' to the sound, on occasions?

Anyone help.................

Both are good, but I would recomend the QED Revelation. The Atlas was a bit bassey for my liking. The QED will give a lot more life you want

Thanks for your input guys,

Was thinking, as I biamp the front two speakers, of keeping the chord silverscreen for the bass, and adding the Revelation or Hyper 2.0 to the high frequencies?

I noticed someone (Davey1) has done this before, and of course, if it not too good, I can then buy more of the more expensive cable, whichever I choose.

http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Atlas-Hyper-20/UserReviews/

The reason I'm a bit confused is that the mag suggests the Altas Hyper 2.0 is the best buy at this price (page 144 of latest mag), yet the Revelation is suggested with the denon 2310 and £2200 Monitor Audio Silver RX6 AV12 speaker package (page 69) as a good match in 'now add these'.

Will probably use a metre of the more expensive cable with the centre speaker too......

The Atlas is great for me and much more neutral that the QED speaker cables I've had in the past, although I've never tries the Revelation.

2-1 to QED.......

Anyone else have a point of view?

I have just upgraded to Chord Odyssey 2 from chord carnival silverscreen and what a difference it makes. my local hi-fi store lent me some Chord Odyssey 2 and chord rumour. the difference was noticable with the rumour but the Chord Odyssey 2 was in a different league, a very clean and natural sound, very detailed and much better bass, great cable in my opinion and worthy of a demo.

I think you need to spend a lot of money to improve on the Odyssey.

Thanks guys,

Someoone has suggested the QED X Tube 400 as another possible upgrade. I have found it for £14.99/metre too.

Any ideas how it compares, as it was the QED 'flagship' cable......

Agreed at some point, i have the Chord Odyssey and it was defenitly an improvement over standard cables from a DIY store and such, no matter the thickness of cable. If anyone absolutely doesn't want to spend money on speaker cable they are better of using coax TV/Antenna cable then normal speaker cable, no kidding! You should try it!

The sound with the Chord was clearer, more open at the mid/high frequencies, a bit more energy and better seperation. Part of why the Chord sounds good might be becausse it are massive wires in contrary to most traditional speaker cables. I heard further improvement on a very expensive Supra sword cable in terms of scale and open sound but defenitly not worth the high prices in my book, money is better spend on upgrading components.

Rightnow i'm playing with the Anticable, basically 1 massive pure copper wire with only a thin coat of laquer for isolation. Reason is that isolation limits the aspect of speaker wire, part of why some cables needs long burn in to. The Anticable might be not simple to install for some. It is stiff wire and it has to float in the air and not touch the ground. When comparing the Anticable with the Chord Odyssey the difference was not as straightforward as comparing it with cheap wire. Seperation of instruments were at least as good with the Anticable and i found a more natural midrange and overall sound while the Chord had a bit more energy in the mid/high, propably becausse the chord is silver plated. Anyways i found both good cables with a slight preference to the Anticable as i feel it is the most neutral sounding cable, but if you want to alter the sound a little bit, the aspects of other cables like the Chord can do nicely. I hold on to the chord for my system upstairs becausse it is easy in use, roll up and put it away in contrary to the stiff difficult to manage Anticable ( i have the habit of building a 2nd system up in an other room from time to time) . The Anticable can also be bought cheaply fromp the roll without terminations if you don't use any, that way it's as cheap as chips. But unless your system puts emphasis on the mid/highs you certainly wouldn't make a mistake buying a Chord Odeyssey though!

ok, it's down to the Revelation, Odyssey 2 and x tube 400...

All seem to have good reports........may have to find a friendly shop to borrow some of the above....

It may not be that much of an upgrade to the sound, as the speakers will be the limiting factors here. Unless you are going to get a different speaker package, then in hindsight, stay with the silverscreen. It's a damn fine cable.

Otherwise, the cabling will be more than the speakers you have etc. WHF says about 10% of the cost on cables. But we all know we never do that, and get the best we can lol

True, it takes a good transparant speaker to make this upgrade "more" worthwhile. I had to strain myself to hear differences with my previous Wharfedale speakers. Differences in my system become more apparent since i switched to Hyperionsound speakers. I haven't come across a speaker cable as the Anti Cable regarding price performance, the Chord is expensive. But as said, practicallity can be an issue for some for the Anti Cable.

I'm aware that the speaker package might be a 'limiting factor' with this, but you never know I might upgrade that too, one day.....but admittedly not in the next few years really. I see the speaker cable upgrade as i minor one, as the cost is minial compared with spending £1000+ on speakers......and, like everyone else, I'm just trying to get the best out of my system.......

I think it's down to the Odyssey 2 and X tube 400 now, as someone has mentioned that they had heard the revelation and odyssey 2 and that the sound was much better on the odyssey 2........

Chord Odyssey 2. Superb cable and you can rest assured that it'll work well for you unless you have a harsh system (in which case you should change the harsh system

A harsch system can do well with Cardas cables... Otherwise the Chord will do fine.

I have both cables, the chord and qed. The only reason I swapped from the qed was that I needed 20 metres of cable for the lounge and bedroom, and got the chord for £66 off ebay. I would of gone for the revelation, as I personally think it is the better cable.

Go with the qed and you will notice a huge difference.

Ok, just won 4 metres of Chord Odyssey 2 off ebay....6 months old, so nicely 'burnt in' and with banana plugs already fitted....

All for under £45 delivered.......can't wait to try it out.....

you will be happy. Iggle is spot on, the Odyssey is one solid cable.

Can't wait to receive it Gerrardasnails......

It seems alot of people on here use it with more expensive speaker systems, so it will useable were I to upgrade my speakers at some point too......

Althought I don't see that happening in the near future really.

When the snow disappears for good, I'll be able to get back to work properly, and not spend money over the net!!!
