Alien Anthology

What fantastic re-masters!

So far I've only watched Alien and Aliens, but both editions are the best I've heard / seen these films. It's like watching them for the first time all over again! Particular highlights are some of the panoramic shots in Alien, which crisply show the landscape of the alien worlds. On both DVD and VHS, these scenes were a bit of a mess. But not now [:)]

The stupidly noisy extended scenes from Aliens have also been worked on. These now fit in perfectly with the rest of the film.

Huge thumbs up [Y]

The first two movies are awesome - both for different reasons - my personal favourite is the slow paced, atmospheric original. The third movie looks just as good, but the fourth movie, which is a bit pants anyway, looks like a standard def version, possibly upscaled SD, but definitely not HD.

They've done excellent work to clean up the second one without smoothing it out.

Agreed. They've somehow managed to clean the image without ruining the gritty atmosphere of the film. Awesome job!

I've heard that the fourth wasn't mastered as well. But I'm not too fussed. For me the Alien saga finished with Aliens. I think the third is OK, but I don't treat it as a part of the series. The fourth was abysmal.

Looking forwaerd to watching the extras now...I usually never bother with them, but I love these films

Loving this boxset. Have watched all the movies in their SE Editions back to back, and have chosen to focus on Alien 3's extras etc first, feeling that time has been kind to Fincher's work. Interesting to see William Gibson's work referenced in the fact track - as 'Necromancer'..........

Looks stunning - definitely better than the earlier R1 THX DVDs I had - how do they compare to the more recent R2 DVDs? A better upgrade over DVD on this occasion IMHO compared to the Back to the Future trilogy which looked a little closer to the DVDs. I love the latter movies so much though I just had to have em!
