Hi people! I pick up my first ever Blu Ray player tomorrow (Sony BDP-360S). Any recommendations from you experts on what the first disc I should play on it?

Not interested in the audio side of things as haven't got a surround system (yet!), so any suggestions on my first disc to test it out on would be greatly appreciated. Not concerned about the genre, just the visuals!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Sizzers:Sounds good @ Gel. Loved "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", book and movie.

You can now buy both together on a blu ray box set for a bargain as well.

There is one clip on Narnia Prince Caspian, when they go back to Narnia and there is a beach, it's the best picture I have seen on blu ray.

Yeah, but the movie sucks!

I would say go for 300, as already mentioned, or Blade Runner, Braveheart, Wanted.

Some of the best cinematography I've seen is on "House of Flying Daggers" (on DVD), but having read a number of reviews on the BD version the difference is supposedly minimal. Shame, because that would have been my first choice.

Bolt - looks superb.

Dances with wolves was good for an older movie

I would say The Dark knight and Batman Begins as a good double or the Spiderman Trilogy as a boxset Band of Brothers and Planet Earth, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind.

Casino Royale + the Pirates & Matrix trilogies - IMHO, all are much better than the DVD versions & really highlight Blu-Ray's richer colours, detail, sharper images & stonking sound. (Re Pirates' sound options - select 'non-compressed', otherwise the default is no 2 Dolby.)

2001 a space odyssey

Dark Knight

Blade Runner

Iron Man

The Matrix

I wouldn't recommend close encounters though.......

I can strongly recommend Slumdog Millionaire. Failing that Transformers. or the pirates and batman movies are good.

personally Im a bit tightfisted with buying movies. the plus side is I dont have loads of VHS and DVDs. even now with bluray it has to be both a classic movie that i will or have watched again and again and also alldeged to be a worthwhile upgrade over previous releases.

as such my list to date is

Godfather trilogy coppoloa remasters

leon directors cut

goodfellas

but the standout for me so far the film ZULU

if you like the movie anyway, and want to impress especially older people that

know the movie. Zulu is amazing and looks like a brand new bond movie.

JamesOK:

Andy Clough:I'd go for The Dark Knight.

Me too, and Casino Royale. Both look amazing on Blu Ray.

Quantum of Solace is good Pq and Sq but some people have trouble getting into the film.
