Sorry if this is a dumb question, but you know the saying....

I'm about to install my Onkyo 605 Amp which I understand puts out 140W per channel. I'm hooking it up to AE Aego T speakers which have a satellite max rating of 100W. Is there a risk of putting too much power into the speakers and blowing them up (or damaging them in some way)???

No.

Damage occurs from using an underpowered amp and making it strain to play the at the volume you want. The more power your amp has the more smoothly it'll drive your speakers.

So connect away happy in the knowledge that your amp's the right bit of kit. It is.

Wot 'e sed...

Seriously, there won't be any probs at all, just don't really cane the amp so it starts to clip, and you'll be fine. Mind you, if you turn up the 605 to the point where it clips, we feel sorry for your ears, the cat, the neighbours...

And anyway, the maximum continuous output of the 605, all channels driven, full range, into 8 ohms and with sensible THD figures, is nearer 90W than 140W.

Excellent - thanks both for your responses.

I'll be plugging it in this weekend. Earplugs in everyone....
