Obviously the Onkyo TX-SR range of AV receivers are getting a lot of publicity right now for introducing TrueHD etc surround sound format decoding at a good price (with the Sony DG-910 a lower cost alternative with players that have built-in decoding for those formats). Just wondered if there was a consensus on where older models fit in. For example, the Yamaha RX-V1700 is now being sold at a clearance price close to that of the Onkyo TX-SR605. So would it be considered competitive? a) when playing back decoded DTS/DD surround sound b) LPCM over hdmi for TrueHD etc.

Bargain or not? Worth considering over the TX-SR605?

I have heard that yamaha, and I think it is beautiful. The optimisers for music etc. are so realistic to a listening environment. It just sounds beautifully natural. If I had the money, I would.
