I have just sold my Yamaha DSP AX1 because I'd like to get into the newer HD audio formats. The Yamaha was built like a tank and what I'd like to know is where do I have to start to find an amp that will match it in plain DD/DTS stakes (I'd hate to buy a newer amp that sounds great with HD audio but not as good as theYammy in plain vanilla DD/DTS mode)? Is the Onkyo 875/ Denon 3803 / Yamaha RXV 1800 a good place to start?

Your best sound-per-pound option right now is that Onkyo '875. Beautiful sound for the money. Only thing is, give it a bit of room - don't bung it in a cramped space under a shelf - because it does get a bit warm. But it's very good with DD and DTS, just as it is with TrueHD etc. It's also surprisingly good in stereo.

Therein lies the problem - the Yammy was on the bottom shelf of my cabinet with approx. 5" above it, 2" either side and 4" behind it. Would this be enough for the Onkyo?
