My new turntable is amazing, not only those it look a million dollars (pounds of here), but it plays like a dream! this what music is supposed to sound like! the best £400 I have spent in a very long time. The vocals are so rich, the soundstage is wider than a hippo, the instruments just seem to float in the air. Not the best of descriptions but there you have it.

I'm tempted, but I have no records. Just too much an an investment in money and space. Plus, even if I can find the records I want, they cost at least 50% more than CDs.

Aren't most new recordings DDD? So even if you get a vinyl release, it's been recorded using digital production equipment. So in effect, you've got an analog version of a digital recording. Which is precisely what a CD player does anyway. Where's the win?

Maybe so, but even if I record stuff on my Mac it's 24/48 so has more headroom than CD. But as you say, if you have no vinyl, I'd say there's no point in starting...

On average I am paying between 75p and £20 for vinyl LPs with £8 being very usual.

I pay £2 to have every LP (new or used) Keith Monks cleaned before play (includes new poly LP cover and archival grade anti-stat inner sleeve) so I would say the average - including cleaning & new sleeves - is around £10 each.

Despite that, I picked up 4 LPs last week in near mint condition for £3 each from the local PDSA charity shop. (No, not Pet Shop Boys.)

Ebay, Amazon, charity shops & our local second hand record shop are all excellent sources of used and new vinyl in (generally) excellent condition. Out of about 90 LPs I have bought in the last year I only had one 'duffer' and that was an original manufacturing/pressing fault on a new LP not neglect or crud.

The finest pressing I have is from 1964 (Dizzy Gillespie "Its a Cool World" Philips).

I don't have many vinyls..but I am enjoying buying some at the moment. It's time and money I am willing to take and spend :) But it's important to invest in a really good TT, my Genie does not come close to my newly acquired Pro-ject 2 Xperience.

Well done - They are very impressive for the money. Enjoy.

Yeah, I buy most of my vinyl from local charity shops. Probably some of the best places to buy records given the diminishing high street record shop. If you're lucky you can pick up new stock.
