wiring speaker cables using banana plugs

Hello

I am using some cambridge speaker cables and when i fix them to the banana plugs the speaker cable just comes out, can i fold the speaker copper wire in two then insert into the banana plug so the screw in the banana plug holds the wire in place. I am not sure as i do not want to blow anything up when i power up the receiver.
