My girlfriend is too pretty to like hifi. She likes bunnies instead.

Boiled?

Are you asking whether she is an obsessive stalker? (/captain subtext)

Boiled as in cooked, dear captain.

And where are all the wife + hifi photos?

Girlfriend comrade, not wife. This the 21st century, in which privacy is also turning out to be a big issue. No photos for you, but I can tell you that she looks a lot like Meryl Streep in her younger years: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a3/Meryl_Streep_by_Jack_Mitchell.jpg

For the purpose of choking the bishop I would however recommend the regular selection of adult video sites.

Ooops. First one to slip on the banana peel!

Never fails. ;)

You missed that my little rant there was very tongue-in-cheekish

No, my partner could not care less, BUT that's not always a bad thing, as long as its the same colour I can get away with changing anything I want and she does not notice, I have even upgraded my speakers to larger floor standing ones, that was years ago and she still has not noticed, in fact I am looking for a new amp right now and know one needs to know

I get encouragement from my Hazel, although not technical she likes the same music as me and she has a good pair of ears, what more can one want in the pursuit of music pleasure?

My wife has come with me to the Bristol Sound and Vision right from the start of our relationship. we have both enjoyed the differences we here each time we upgrade something. As I write this we Have a Phil Collins CD which just sounds fantastic. So many more things were heard than on previouse listens before the upgrades.

So I like you am very lucky.

You were doing so well until you mentioned Phil Collins!

Reading the title, I thought it was going to be this.......

A man receives a text from his neighbour. It says.....

"I must appologise, I have been tapping your wife for several months now, every time you are out of the house I am at it, I'm really very sorry and I shall make sure it never happens again".

The man is furious, really mad, he storms into the kitchen and smashes his wife over the head with a saucepan, killing her instantly, but just at that moment another text comes in from his neighbour.

"Bl**dy autocorrect, thats wi-fi, not wife, sorry".

Really? Feels more like the 1970s at the moment. Guess it's true that hi-fi enthusiasts are mostly old dinosaurs, still, one advantage of that, you'll all drop dead soon and the rest of us won't have to listen to this **** for much longer...

Just fed up with the same tedious sexist cliches that get trotted out every ******* time this topic comes up. Pretty sure most of these "wives" are completely imaginary as well...

@LHC

Broner is a smartass people pleaser, one of the more positive chaps here on the forum. He was just joking.

If he is sexist then we all are. No one is perfect.

Except my wife here.

I would guess that it would be something I said, but I have difficulties imagining what I actually said that was wrong in any way, but maybe that's because I don't mind the occassional cliché. Could be a cultural thingy. Anyway, I will try to select my words more carefully.

I just hope that if any of you have daughters, that they are never subjected to the same degree of mysogyny that is regularly displayed so proudly on this forum. (Especially Davedotco's cheery little wife murdering 'joke' earlier.)

Think I've totally missed all the 'hatred of women' in this thread, yet I've read it end to end. 1970s? Perhaps sometimes it wouldn't be a bad thing. For all the rampant sexism, racism and homophobia which was totally out of order, it was at least a time where you didn't have to vet every sentence you said in case it bloody offended somebody. On the whole women don't give a monkey's about HiFi. It's not sexist to say so, it's just a fact, deal with it.

If you know it's "totally out of order" then why not try NOT saying it, instead of complaining about people being offended?

And if that's all this thread had said nobody would have mentioned it but it never stops there with these threads (this has been done several time incidentally). davedotco's plunged new depths though, admittedly...

Hmmm.....I've read this thread too and I'm struggling to find....

Wait a second, davedotco's post including a JOKE, didn't it? A joke: that is something to LAUGH at and not to be taken seriously. If he'd said I'd kill a woman if she........that might not be sexist but might show a potential criminal disposition. However, it was a reference to a joke. I laughed my socks off as it was funny. Wifi indeed. Some people need to laugh more and not scrutinise everything quite as closely . We are becoming a rather het up nation of folks. Everybody should learn to lighten up a bit.

I just think all you Professionally Offendeds need to lighten up a little, that is all. I wonder how you exist in the real world outside of your protective bubbles. On a forum which is predominantly populated by women* don't you think there are the occasional anti-male remarks and jibes that are taken in the funny way they are intended without someone screaming 'sexist'? In fact try working in an environment like I have for 25 years where 75% of the workforce is female.

*I won't dare suggest one, I'll only get slaughtered for gender stereotyping...

One of the reasons my wife is my wife is that we have a common love of music and live performance which has played a major part in our leisure activities throughout our time together.

Although she is happy enough to audition new purchases with me she is definitely not a hi fi addict.

Blessed with an ability to multi-task she is happier listening to an overal performance rather than focusing in on any particular aspect.

I've sat in listening rooms before now and have come across many so called male experts who seem to prefer sounds to melodies.

I think we have to accept that maybe it's possible for some to appreciate a painting without having to examine the brush strokes in detail.

I think many women may fall into this category.
