Why do I do this to myself?

Popped into Richer Sounds yesterday (not a planned visit), and started to chat to the sales guy. We got around to different systems, so I told him what I had - it was just a general chit-chat.

Then he started to talk about the Tannoy Precision 6.1 and he said they should be a good match, even though they don't stock Leema stuff. As a consequence he's invited me for a dem with my kit, alongside the TB2s. He said he wouldn't pin me down on a sale, but if I really like them he'll do me a good deal.

Love the PMCs but the only snag is Mrs. P thinks they're too bulky. So I've taken up his invitation and booked a dem for Tuesday of next week: The Leema, Electrocompaniet CDP and TB2s.

I have heard those Tannoys once before and thought they sounded good, although being powered at the time by Cyrus Lyric, I wasn't totally convinced that was the best match.

What I will hear in comparison to the PMCs I've no idea at this stage. By Tuesday afternoon, I will.

Oh dear. Will be great to see your findings though.

Nope. The Welsh wonders have gone all digital on me. Not good as all my gear is analogue.

Electrocompaniet make an analogue CD player?

C'mon Chebby! The discs are recorded as digital but all CDPs have digital to analogue converters - hence my Merlin Chopin RCAs rather than optical cables.

I wont be able to convert ou to the dark side (hegel) lol

No. I've always said the Pulse is a genuine keeper, and after 5 years of ownership I have no reason to change now or anytime in the near future. Probably kep it until it drops.

Did this years ago with my Pioneer amp: Had for 17 years before the switches and knobs gave up. Decided it wasn't practical to repair.

For PP the 'dark side' is either valves or digital. (Or, ultimately, a valve DAC!)

Wrong. The dark side for me is streamers or any mechanism that downloads stuff. Far too unreliable.

Two weeks ago the PC had to be repaired because of viruses. Roughly every few days something goes wrong with the thing (loss of internet connection, lagging... so disruptive.

I don't know what to say. 18 years of computers in our home and we've never had a problem. (Ok one failing HD about 6 years ago that Apple promptly replaced and fitted free within the week and I restored from it's backup within an hour.)

Eight and a half years with Virgin Media (cable) internet and only one outage that ever caused me to have to go to the office to work.

No viruses, ever, on any machine, Apple or Windows.

What on Earth are you doing?

I do rather wonder but it does happen. People are not all comfortable with computers though in the four years I've had my current laptop, I've never had an issue yet. In the twenty odd years I've had a computer at home, maybe twice with memory issues.

But streaming or ripping as "dark side", well it's maybe different, but it's about as intuitive as it gets these days
