where just about to delve into replacing our crt panasonic with a 37 LCD and am torn with either the panasonic TX-37LZD80 or the TX-37LZD800 (both given what hi-fi 5stars).Can any one save the day or is there a pana free sat one available .

Why not the Panasonic TH37PX80 Plasma?

Fantastic TV for around £500

The freesat is TX-37LZD81 and only got 4 stars, personally i'd look at the TH-37PX80 plasma which has just won the supertest and best 37in in 2008 awards.

At this size, full HD is not crucial.

As Clare from what HiFi says...

I have this TV and it's great.

thanks for that link which i have read i am almost buying it just a few things is the speakers built in ok on their own for the time being or do i have to buy a home cinema av amp setup at the same time .will it still be ok for HD and blue ray (we are 2.5 metres from screen)

I have 2 of them, one with & one without home cinema.

I think the sound is perfectly acceptable from them - not awe inspiring but acceptable.

Put it like this, I haven't sat there once and thought about the sound quality so it can't be that bad. I have it set on "music" which seems to beef it up a little bit.

As said before, at this TV size HD is not a big issue and the TV looks great in SD or HD but I've not got Blu-Ray so I can't comment about that.

There is however this What HiFi review which talks about Blu-Ray

PX80, PX80 so good I bought it twice 😀

The minimum recommended viewing distance for a 37in TV is 2.46m and thats for viewing at SD so at HD 2.5 metres it will be great, you could probably watch a 46in in HD at 2.5metres.
