Which is best 720p or 1080i. sending hd audio into none hd audio amp.

Hi all, I have just changed nearly all my system and all i can say wow but this hdmi upscale is a bit over my head. My new toys panasonic 42 px80 acoustic energy t speakers (six) bk xls300 sub marantz 6002 cd player mordaunt short 902i (for music only) stuff i already owened yamaha 2600 recevier panasonic ex75 dvd recorder sd sky I have a hdmi lead straight fron the dvd to tv i take it this is the best way as at the moment its the only unit with hdmi, but which is best 720p or 1080i also the sd sky is sent via scart lead is there any way of upscaleing sd sky or is it not worth it or possible.And do i have to keep changeing back to 576p in the dvd recorder menu every time i watch something ive recorded on my hard drive because it dosent seem to fill the screen in 720p or 1080i. Will be geting a blueray player at the end of the summer i was told my 2600 can pass hd audio from a blueray player is this true or will i need a new amp which i dont want to do if possible as it is only 18 months old. hope someone can help cheers.

Fairly difficult post to follow but I'll try! First off, 720p vs 1080i is very much your own choice. Watch them both and decide which one you prefer, there's no right or wrong answer for this.

Secondly, I'm guessing "sd sky" means just standard Sky or Sky+ in which case, Scart is your best connection for this to your TV.

Thirdly, I haven't seen the issue you're talking about on your DVD recorder (I have a friend with the Panasonic DMR-EX27 and another with the DMR-EX85 so I guess they would be the same). Both play any recordings fine in upscaled mode.

Finally, from what I've read, the Yamaha can cope with 5.1 signals from a Blu-ray player assuming that player has decoded the soundtrack onboard and is passing it to the amp via HDMI as Linear PCM e.g. like the PS3 does.
