Which end stub for the Rega RB250?

Here's a question that has come out of my other threads.

Which end stub upgrade for the Rega RB250 is best. Is it the Origin Live one or the Michell Technoweight?

I have a Systemdek IIX900 with, obviously, a Rega RB250. The cartridge is a stopgap but hope to eventually work up to a moving coil cartridge, probably an Ortofon or Sumiko.

Of course I'm assuming that there are no other upgrades that I may have missed?

Soundwise I dont think there will be much in it but for ease of use the technoweight wins. Check clearances though cos the technoweight sits very low.

I've also just come across the isokinetik system as well. Just to confuse matters!!!

I am assuming that you are looking at the isokinetic and orign end stub and weight combination with the offset hole in the weight not the one with the hole in the centre.

Technoweight for me. Of course just to add something else into the mix, if you are on a budget then you could go for the RB300 end stub and counterweight which you can get for £33.00 from British Audio Products. This would defintely be better than the plastic affair on your RB250 but obviously not as exotic as the Technoweight, OL, etc.

You'd be better off changing the cartridge. The ones you mention or a Denon will make far more difference than changing the counterweight ever will.

I do intend to upgrade the cartridge and know the route to go but I want to upgrade the arm as well, which is an area I'm not familiar with so am just trying to get some inside info.

Mitch65, I think I'm coming down on the side of the Technoweight. As I have said, I have a soft spot for all things Michell, which never helps!

I doubt you'll regret it, it's not the most expensive option either which is always a blessing

Floyd- I've recommended the OL weight to you on another thread - really made a difference for me - but seeing similar recommendations for the Michell one suspect they are probably much the same (in a positive way!). My guess is that the improvement comes from the fact that the original weight is a bit duff - so either will be an improvement - win - win situation.

likearollincheese, Cheers. Thanks for your advice. I think your right. If it comes down to them both being as good as one another I may just go for the technoweight. I'll report back when I've done the upgrade but I think the cartridge will need replacing first asap!!
