...but this list contains some non-vinyl items.
Vashti Bunyan: various youtube clips of her early singles. I shall be busting a gut to track these down so let's call them potential vinyl that I'm playing. Gentle, lovely songs with that 60's feel.
'Getz/Gilberto.'
Jefferson Airplane: 'Crown Of Creation.' + a few TMQ Airplane vinyl bootlegs.
Cecil Taylor: 'Unit Structures.' Difficult. Very Difficult. Like it though.
Lee Morgan: 'In Search Of The New Land.' Brilliant Blue Note...Lee's best perhaps.
Sonny Rollins: 'Volume 1' + 'Volume 2' Brilliant Blue Notes.
Wayne Shorter: 'Juju' You guessed it...a brilliant Blue Note.
Nirvana: 'All Of Us.'
Nirvana: ' The Story Of Simon Simpoath.'
Blossom Toes: 'We Are Ever So Clean.' A far more enjoyable record than the one they were trying to emulate, 'Seargant Pepper's etc' You can't be serious? Oh I am.
Blossom Toes: 'If Only For A moment.' Neglected and wonderful.
Jim, you really have a marvellous jazz (and other "genres" too - I hate that word!) collection. I often scurry to online listening to check out the (many) titles I don't know.
Currently playing:
Moonshine
Birthday Blues
As we've discussed previously Bert Jansch really was a captivating talent.
Haven't played Moonshine for ages. Who the heck is Garry Boyle? His electric playing on a couple of songs is wonderful complement to Bert's acoustic picking.
Thanks, Charlie. I guess it's because I've been collecting since I was 14 so I focus on the 60'/70's primarily and I realise that my post 90's collection is rather weedy. I usually listen to the more modern stuff on youtube, but I have no inclination to collect it. If a record turned up on the various markets stalls I buy stuff from, I'd buy it though ie Sufjan Stevens or Devendra Banhart.
Gary Boyle played with a lot of jazz musicians in the early 70's and is primarily a jazz/fusion guitarist; he appeared as a session man on many records and if I'm not mistaken plays on Python Lee Jackson's 'In A Broken Dream' which I thought was a terrific single.
The two Bert's you list are both lovely records, especially 'Moonshine' which must be one of his very best. If you haven't listened to 'Avocet', which is entirely instrumental, then give it a go: it was Bert's favourite record. It's beautifully played and very atmospheric. Finding a vinyl copy of 'Avocet' is pretty difficult though because I think it was released solely in Holland: I don't think it goes for that much, maybe £20/£30.
Bert is a god; i treasure his records, along with Charlie Parker's above all others...oh and the records of Pearls Before Swine are pretty special too. There's a band for you to google!!!
I think you'd like the Blossom Toes records, but beware: they're £800 each!!! They've been reissued though...finding a mono copy of 'We Are Ever So Clean' is something that would literally take my breath away. Ha! How sad is that?!!
Lee Morgan's 'Search For The New Land' is brilliant...try it.
