we heard you Charlie

Oooos.

No beer involved either.

Tonight, so far:

Studio Tan - Frank Zappa

Don't worry Mrs Jefferson, your secret's safe with us. ;)

She's got exquisite taste that Mrs.Jefferson. Apparently, she's now moved on to:

Don't Stand Me Down - Dexys

and then she's considering a spot of Zep before Newsnight and sleep.

Earlier I played side two of this

The_Cure_-_Faith.jpg

and side one of this

Tears%2BFor%2BFears%2B-%2BThe%2BHurting%2B-%2BSealed%2B-%2BLP%2BRECORD-460296.jpg

Though I don't usually admit to playing the latter, ever. ;)

one of my fave 80s records

I liked it then, and I like it now, but I have ranted in the past about 80s music being sh*t, so it's difficult for me to admit that I like it without a certain amount of egg on my face.

For what it's worth, I do realise that there were plenty of good records in the 80s, but I still dislike a lot of the production, and don't get me started on the clothes (which are now back in fashion).

Kraftwerk - Trans Europa Express

Sounding good with the new cart?

Sounding very good indeed. If I have time at the weekend will have to give all my Kraftwerk a spin from Autobahn to Tour de France, although I don't have Electric Cafe.

They were also very good live last year at Latitude Festival.

I bet. A mate of mine saw them in the early 90s at Brixton Academy (I think), I could have gone, but at the time, I had no interest at all in Kraftwerk.

You live and learn.

Edit. I guess it was this gig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8nhUTrzHzg

O dear, Epic fail!

Had to play Robots & The Model before bed - they sound freakin good on my buzzy wobbly Rega rig :)

Man Machine is a masterpiece and the remastered vinyl sounds mint - Cheers BBB think you recommended them

Abandoned the Zep plan and continued with more Zappa.

The brilliant double live LP, Tinseltown Rebelllion.

Worth it for the sheer exuberance and quality of the recording and the stunning playing on the title track.

I sense a re-acquaintance with Uncle Meat approaching. That just sounds sordid. Great LP though.

Uncle Meat and Mrs Jefferson: how I chortled.

Uncle Meat is a great record/records though. One of my favourite FZ 's. The early Mothers albums are all wonderfully chaotic; I'm particularly partial to 'Absoluely Free.' Frank was a great guitar player and composer. I love his singing too: that sardonic and gently mocking tone. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

First LP of the New Year tonight..

Camel%2B-%2BRain%2BDances%2B-%2BCD%2BALBUM-464808.jpg

.. sounding particularly good tonight. I've had an ear infection for the last month or so and it's just about cleared up, so I'm hearing things properly again.

Good to hear some plaudits for FZ's music and Uncle Meat in particular.

My "way in" to his music came through a guitar-playing friend thirty years ago, who raved about Zappa's playing. Zoot Allures and the Shut Up box set were the first things I heard.

Since then it's been an interesting journey of discovery. We're Only In it For The Money is one of my favourite early ones. I'm also partial to his orchestral renditions of his work and his actual compositions for orchestra. Current listen: The Yellow Shark.

Mrs.J is away.

Zappa was good but Beefheart was the real thing!

a pleasant time can be had listening to Shiny Beast, a gem of gems!

I love both. But of all Cpt Beefheart's albums Shiny Beast is probably my favourite. Any album with Bat Chain Puller, Ice Rose and Candle Mambo on it is a wonder to behold.
