The history of Faiport Convention, Argus(LP) by Wishbone Ash, So by Peter Gabriel and Lynyrd Skynyrd Vicious Cycle DVD + loads of odd tracks as there's only me in.

This is one of only a few albums I can work with that helps me concentrate. Beautiful too.

I've played Wolfmother 3 times now and it's not as heavy as I first thought.
I really like tracks 4,6,7 & 8 and I've heard track 3 Woman before somewhere but got no idea where. Was it on a NME compilation? I'm pleased I took a gamble and borrowed this as its better than the Joni Mitchell I borrowed.

I'm over 20 years older than Big Chris so go easy on me my tastes have mellowed with age.
Also played Pink Floyd – The Wall and
Humble Pie - Rockin the Filmore live. Walk on Gilded Splinters 25 minutes long which must be the longest track I've got. Survivor, Do you remember those days? Is it you who got the 3 Curved Air albums for Christmas?

Hi Lost. It`s true your tastes tend to change/mellow through the years. There`s loads of stuff I`ve been listening to over the last 5-10 years that I never thought I would enjoy as much as I am.

I ordered the Curved Air albums just after Christmas. One has arrived, `Air Cut` which is very good indeed. The other two are in the post and should be with me early next week along with a Sonja Kristina solo album. I bought five albums by the Strawbs the other day and another album is in the post by a rock band called Steelheart. That`s ten albums already this year! A few days before Christmas I got two albums by a band called The Trees both double vinyl editions so I`ve been pretty busy lately.

Funny you should mention Humble Pie as they are on my hit list along with a few others. Sadly a guy I used to work with who was a massive Humble Pie/Small Faces/Curved Air/Pentangle/Beatles fan died last week and I shall be going to his funeral next Thursday. I used to bump into him in town every now and again and used to enjoy talking to him about what we`d both been buying/listening to.

My son has the Wolfmother album on vinyl and I really like it. I think they`ve got a good sound. A bit of a throwback to rocks glory days I guess which is why they appeal to quite a wide age range. `Woman` may well have been on a compilation though it was also released as a single so it`s possible you could have heard it on the radio.

Heard that Pink Floyds albums are being remastered. Start saving.

All the best!

Heard Rocking the Fillmore for the first time this week - v good. Your comment on the length of the track got me thinking, I have a quite a number of tracks that go into the 20 plus minute length being as I love live rock from the 70's but of course in those days they were limited by vinyl. ELP's Karn Evil 9 from WBMFTTSTNE was over 2 album sides I think. However the longest track in my collection is Instrumental Illness from The Allman Bros in '03 and that clocks in at 39;33. Comfortably beating their own Mountain Jam from (legendary) Fillmore East concert which is a mere 33mins!

At this point I should own up to still liking Yes' Tales from Topographic Oceans!?! 4 tracks on a double album.

As i write am listening to Gilmour at Gdansk - Echoes has just come which clocks in at over 25mins, great version of Comfortably Numb also.

Survivor, The best of luck with the Curved Air albums, I've only got Phantasmagoria which I must have bought in 1972 after I saw them at Loughborough Uni. I never buy anything anymore unless I've heard it. You seem to be more up to date with the music scene than me as I've not heard of the Trees or Steelheart, (perhaps the advantage of kids liking similar music) but it's something for me to look out for.

I`m losing on the swings, I`m losing on the roundabouts must mean a Marillion fan from Script for a Jesters Tear. Great album

Nandjg. The Allman Bros. Eat a Peach and Live at the Filmore East are gonna be the next two LPs I'm going to play tomorrow night.

Big Chris is listening to Death- Individual Thought Patterns, I wonder if our local library have got a copy of that I can borrow? bet it's definitely too heavy for me

Hello again Lost, don`t have the Phantasmagoria album but may well get it sometime this year. I`m not actually as up to date as you might think! The albums by The Trees are reissues from 1970. Been waiting a couple of years for these to be released and it`s thankfully been well worth it as the sound quality is outstanding. Mind you at £22 a piece you`d expect something fairly decent. Steelheart have a new album just out but the one I`ve ordered is from 1990 and it`s to replace my cassette. Steelhearts main asset is the bands talented vocalist called Michael Matijevic. He has quite a range.

My son has some albums by Death. Says they`re all good but they are pretty heavy and wouldn`t advise to get if Wolfmother are a little on the heavy side for you.If you did take the plunge then the album `Symbolic` is a good place to start.

`Losing on the swings` is indeed from Misplaced Childhood and is one of my all time favourites. Made the mistake of telling that to Fish once (some shameless name dropping there!) and would not recommend you do the same. Wanted to know what I thought of his latest record which I don`t have! Maybe it gets frustrating for an artist if everyone goes on about the old stuff all the time.

Anyway, talking of my son I`m just about to drive him back to University after his four week break! See you later.

Probably. Your best bet for checking out a few tracks of any artist, is visiting their Myspace sites. Saves making those regretted purchases, or wasted trips tracking down loan copies of stuff.

If you like things that Rock, have a proggy influence, but aren't too heavy. I would say try to track down a copy of 'Ayreon - The Human Equation'. It's a rock opera kind of thing with loads of guest vocalists all playing different parts........Sounds a bit poncy, (and it is a little), but it's also very good.

Not listened to seperately, but at exactly the same time. Times of Grace on the Hi-Fi, and Grace through the home cinema.

I don't know of any other artists that have made a CD along with a counterpart, designed to be played at the same time.........Those wacky Neurosis boys!

Aaaah The Allmans at Filmore East & Whipping Post the definitive version - just about as good as music gets (IMHO).

Spinning a Styx CD at the moment - just a best of compilation (remaster) but not listened to them for a while forgotten how good.

Next, another compilation - Tom Petty Anthology - brilliant music, brilliant recording, bliss.

Sounds great Chris, love Neurosis (and avant garde stuff like that). Boris released a double album on vinyl called Dronevil which was supposed to be played simultaneously on two turntables. Haven't heard it but it's an interesting concept.

Speaking of Neurosis, I read on Pitchfork that the main geezer(can't remember his name)is forming a doom metal supergroup of sorts called Shrinebuilder with members of Tribes of Neurot and Harvey Milk - Dale Crover is playing drums and being a huge Melvins fan I'm looking forward to hearing the result - I believe they're recording now in LA.

Currently listening to Leviathan by Mastodon - an xmas prezzie from my daughter.

Dunno if you've heard 'The Ocean' Dave, but I saw them a couple of months back when I saw Opeth & Cynic at Shepherds Bush. They have an album out called 'Precambrian'. It's a double album. Reminds me of Isis & Neurosis as well as having a slightly more 'metal' approach (I can hear elements of 'The Red Chord' in it too). It's worth a listen.

Neurosis main geezer......Mmmmmm........Steve Von Till? Scott Kelly?

nandjg. Just played both the Allman Bros albums also got Hittin the note on CD might play that soon.

I reckon I heard your Allman Bros Instrumental Illness track(all 39 mins) whilst I was at work a few years ago. We used to be able to get Internet radio (before they banned it) and I used to tune in to Shasta radio from Mount Shasta California.
As it was nightime in California they used to play a tape loop (think that's what you call it) of endless rock music and I remember one really long track that was on one morning that I thought was The Allman Bros. They used to play some fabulous stuff on that station but as there was no one there you never found out who any of it was by, just some guy used to come on every hour with the weather forecast (34 degrees and 4 inches of snow expected above 3500 feet etc) Not where I'd want to live, but the music was fabulous

Currently playing Beethoven symphonies Nos 5 & 6 and Wolfmother again later..
