Magnum "Vigilante"

Survivor. Thought you were getting the Eagles on vinyl?

Still thinking about it. Got the cd version when it came out because the vinyl was around £35-40! Might have a look around and see if the price has dropped.

I`ve got "Vigilante" on vinyl by the way! Coincidentally just played `Wings Of Heaven`. Love Bob Catleys voice. Should be getting "Magnum 2" and "Kingdom Of Madness" remastered versions in post tomorrow or day after. Currently great prices on these albums at Amazon.

matthewpiano: Picked this up today from X Records in Bolton. Really enjoying it too! A couple of treats on the way from Amazon tomorrow as well. I love getting new CDs!!!!

Haven`t played this album for a long time. Quick bit of trivia for you Matthew - "Paradise Theater" was the second album to be released as a laser etched disc with the first being Split Enz`s "True Colours". First single from "Paradise" namely "The Best Of Times" was the first single to be released in laser etched form. Can recommend "Pieces Of Eight" by Styx. Actually, thinking about it I could recommend just about all of the bands output up to and including "Paradise".

I've got Crystal Ball coming tomorrow along with albums by Argent, Boston, Kansas and Firefall so lots more exploring ahead. Will certainly be getting more Styx if I enjoy Crystal Ball as much as 'Paradise'.

On the subject of exploration, do you know much of 'Survivor's' output? (I'm guessing you do given your forum name!) Which album would you recommend first?

Funny you should ask! Yes, I am familiar with Survivor`s output. AOR is my favourite driving music which is when I normally play Survivor. This is why you won`t have seen me listing them on this thread as I tend to just list the music I play at home on my proper hi-fi.

Anyway, start with "Vital Signs". Then get "When Seconds Count" followed by "Caught In The Game". I know you are a studio album man but a compilation called "Ultimate Survivor" features a number of classic Survivor tunes that are not featured on the albums I have mentioned. These include "Eye Of The Tiger", "Burning Heart", "American Heartbeat" and a great ballad called "Ever Since The World Began" which was featured in the Sylvester Stallone movie `Lock Up`.

I am confident you will find that just like Foreigner there is a lot more to Survivor than just one or two songs. Good luck!

p.s. Where have you been buying your Kansas albums? They seem to be pretty expensive in the places I`ve been looking. Not that I won`t pay for a good album if I have to but obviously I`d like to get them as cheaply as possible.

Tom Waits - Mule Variations

Eric Clapton - Disraeli Gears

Nancy Elizabeth - Battle And Victory

Najma - Forbidden Kiss:The Music Of SD Burman

Listening to that too Chris - it's early days but I'm not sure what to make of it. Where's the fire, aggression and all those w.t.f. moments of technical brilliance? It sounds like an extended jam session, slow to mid tempo songs with mainly clean vocals, and only seems to get going on the last track. I'm hoping it'll be a grower but at the moment the jury's out.

Let me know what you think.

Any good ? I recently downloaded Float from emusic but haven't had a proper listen yet

They are like two different seasons (without wanting to sound corny). Float got me into him because of it's similarity to Max Richter, Home is more like the Fleet Foxes and Jose Gonzalez. Both excellent albums.

Love the Elbow album.
Stand out tracks for me are Fugitive Motel (fantastic lyrics) and Grace Under Pressure...

SQ's excellent too

Ordered this last night for my sons birthday. Wish they wouldn`t do so many formats! Took me hours looking around the internet trying to find it on vinyl. Had to preorder as it`s not being released for a few weeks yet. Still, the cd should be here soon.

Float is good, certainly from the few times I've listened to it so far, so will add it to my list of albums for downloading.

Agreed. It's almost like Mastodon's chill-out album. Not bad by any means, but not Mastodon as I know and love them...... Weird......

Also listening to this on the long drive home from work.

Awesome..... If I skipped back to 'The Fairy Feller's Masterstroke' once, I did it a dozen times.

;-)

Ahhhh!! Queen II!! One of the best albums of all time IMO. Wonderful, and I love 'The Fairy Feller's Masterstroke'. Superb stuff.

Well I downloaded 'Point of Know Return' and 'LeftOverture' from iTunes but its proved a mistake. Sound quality is fine (iTunes +) but the flow between tracks is interrupted. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy the CDs despite the high prices. They are just such superb albums.

I ordered 'In The Spirit of Things' from Amazon, but its one of the more reasonably priced ones.

Marillion “Essential Collection”. Only copy of Grendel I've got followed by the tracks “Script for a Jesters Tear” and “Forgotten Sons” from the Script ajbum.

Then Steely Dan tracks “Rikki don't lose that number” and “Haitian Divorce”

Survivor the Eagles album was about £16 on Amazon..
Queen 2 was the last decent Queen album. My fave track is” The march of the Black Queen"

Used to be a Queen fan (in the dim and distant past) and that definitely is one of their best albums. Been trying to find a print of the painting by Richard Dadd that that track was named after, as it happens.

Anyway, back to trying to make sense of Crack the Skye......
