A very enterprising series by Peter Donohoe and the Naxos label with some of the finest playing Donohoe has ever committed to disc. I have some EMI recordings of him playing Chopin where he is too heavy handed, but in this repertoire his playing is full of sensitivity, light and shade. The superb recording quality really brings the performance to life and the music is wonderful.

Awesome.

I could not feel more strongly about this band. When this live album was recorded in 1974 they were in their absolute prime as a band. The songwriting is phenomenally good and the playing of every member of the band superb. John Lees has always been such an expressive guitarist with a wonderful wailing sound that reaches out and grabs the emotions. Combined with the skillful melodic bass playing of Les Holroyd, the creative drumming of the late Mel Pritchard, and the brilliantly judged mellotron and keyboards of Woolly Wolstenholme it is music with huge emotional depth.

Anybody new to BJH who would like to explore their work should start with the following albums:

Once Again
Everyone Is Everybody Else
Time Honoured Ghosts

Is it a good recording of the Strauss Andrew? I'm tempted to get this one.

Excellent recording, and not exactly expensive, either...

Now listening to this, which sounds very good indeed...

Thanks Andrew. Will pick up a copy. I have a good Naxos recording of it already but its such a wonderful work it would be interesting to compare the two.
