Van den Hul Clearwater speaker cables

Does anybody have experience with these speaker cables? They look well made to me and I quite like the clear design which is supposed to be easy to work with.

If you're of the "all speaker cables sound the same" school, please don't bother replying; I don't mean to be rude but I happen to think they don't and would like to be spared the patronising posts of those who proclaim to know better. Cheers :)

I had been considering this cable also. But I’ve since found that Triangle have their own speaker cables, some of which looks very similar to the VDH. And is £35 for 5m, so I’m going to get the Triangle Synergie terminated cables, when my speakers finally materialise!

What speakers are those?

No, i haven’t had any experience of any Triangle speakers at all. But I first found these speakers over 10 years ago, and Had always wanted them, so when I found them for sale (new) I couldn’t resist.

Well, as I've posted here several times the Titus EZ are insanely good imo. I had no idea Triangle did speaker cable. Could you post a link for the speaker cable you've mentioned? I can't see them on the Triangle website.

If you search triangle on richer sounds website, they are all for sale on there. 👍
from the few reviews and opinions I’ve read on the Genese Lyrr, they are right up my street.
once they get here, and have done the 100 hours recommended run in, I’ll let you know my thoughts. 😊

Ok interesting. I've just bought and am listening to Chord clearway X. Not liking them much so far. Quite a thick sound, had 48 hours burn-in at Future shop, but my Audioquest flx slp sound clearer to my ears, but I'll give them more of a chance.

I’m currently using the Audioquest FLX SLiP 14/4 myself, it is a very good speaker cable. The only reason I was looking at VDH speaker cable was after I’d bought VDH The Bay interconnect, as I was really impressed by it.

I think mine's the 14/2 unterminated at the speaker end (so they are pretty dirty and look a bit oxidised) and I need longer cables as I've got new stands. Maybe I should just stick with 14/4 with well-fitted ban plugs. Nothing wrong with the sound really. Really nice in the mids and treble, maybe a touch boomy very occasionally in the bass but that's probably cos I can't pull the speakers further out.

I've tried quite a few different speaker cables. Actually I lie, loads....

Ones I would recommend (IME only) to different budgets:

Van damme - they just make solid no nonsense stuff. Affordable. But quality.

For the larger budget - Tellurium Q Black II (I've also tried the I, this is better). Much pricier, but great cable.

For top end budget: Townshend Isolda DCT - I read the praise online, yeah right!!! I managed to bag a second hand three meter run for £300. Wow! If you have a resolving enough system to appreciate the difference/upgrade, this is amazing. I moved my rack and it wouldn't fit. I needed a longer 4.5m set, but couldnt afford a new set of the Isolda in this length. Wonderful stuff, but pricey. Bought 5m set of TQ Black II, but will be looking to upgrade if I see a second hand set on a 5m run

Well, that's just it I don't think I have a super resolving system, just a fine sounding budget one that I've put together with a careful selection of components, the Titus EZ speakers being the stars of the show. £15 a metre would be my maximum to spend on speaker cables for now, and even that might be overkill as the Audioquest flx/slip were giving me a sound I was pretty happy with. Might swap the Clearway X for Audioquest rocket 11 with Futureshop. They do seem like a pretty good retailer, excellent customer service.

Van Damme hifi cable in 6mm or 4mm. Cost effective and as good as anything as much (or far more) in cost.

I have been tempted by The Clearwater, they seem to be well regarded by owners. Like you, I think with my system it would be a nonsense to spend huge amounts.

Would be interested to see how the Clearwater compares to the Atlas Equator

Look in the specs and you will see the conductor size of these cables. It is that that changes the sound. Too thin and the resistance is high, making the response of the speaker track its impedance curve. You choose a thick one and that will be the best, saving you the trouble of listening to them.:)

OK, well I've got Chord Clearway X at the moment and they're pretty thick with fancy shielding and I don't like them at all. Sound muddy to my ears.

I've not tried those speaker cables but yes you are correct in that not all speaker cables/interconnects sound the same.

The sad reality is that the majority of cables/interconnects either act as a tone control or a filter of sorts. This is particularly true of ultra high priced cables/interconnects where the positive sonic attributes are highlighted and the negatives are either filtered out or tonality(coloration is introduced) changes in some way, or both.

I prefer cables/interconnects that are neutral in terms of sound. I've audioned more cables/interconnects than common sense should allow and what I discovered is mentioned in the second paragraph.

I currently use RM Crimson Music Link with Eichmann Bullet Plugs for speaker cables & RCA interconnects. These are the most neutral that I could find and the price is not that bad. Sadly they are no longer made.

Generally speaking, stick to reasonablely priced cables/interconnects for the best sound. Garbage in garbage out rule does apply so get good components/source components that are well matched to start with and go from there.
Just my opinion.

Good luck.
