I have a 50" Pioneer 508XD, Onkyo SR606 amp, Sony HDX 890 DVD recorder and KEF 1005.2 speakers. I currently have my DVD player connected to my amp via HDMI and then from the amp to TV, again via HDMI. I have been playing around with the settings for the picture resolution. How do I know which component out of my TV, DVD or amp is doing my upscaling in order to get the best picture. I have gone into the menu's on the DVD but it will not let me change the resolution from 720p. I have changed the amp to 1080i however the TV still says it is in 720p. Any ideas of where I'm going wrong..????

Hi Ian.......just a hint before you play around too much.....720p is a better picture than 1080i. Think of 1080i as 2 560p pictures 'interlaced' together, ie flickering on and off so fast your mind sees them as one. 720p gives a consistent ie 'progressive' no flickering 720 line image. Unless you go up to 1080p I would stick with 720p over 1080i any day....
