Upscaling DVD vs TV

I've just waiting on delivery of a Samsung DVD-HD870 to watch yummy upscaled 1080i movies on my Samsung LE26R74BD LCD TV and I feel good.

But hold on...on second thoughts is this happy feeling justified? Surely the TV is already upscaling the signal from my current Pioner DV 656A DVD player. Therefore the picture from the new Samsung player will be no different! Have I just wasted money?

Not necessarily. The upscaler in your DVD player might be better than the one in your TV.
