Unconventional mains block

Right, my new AV rack (cf: 'shelf') has space issues, so I want to make a mains block that's as small as possible. Has anybody seen a mains block that'll accept IEC plugs like this?

Seeing as cable I would have to make up would not be fused, is this a) safe or b) even legal (bear in mind there'd be a fused plug at the socket end).

So both ends of the cable from the mains block to the component will terminate in an IEC and you are doing this to make the mains block as short as possible?

I dont know of such a thing, but this will make for a fun search through the interweb on a cloudy Sunday.
