Hmm, when you say you select it via the DVD disc, just checking - you are playing either a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD disc via the appropraite player aren't you?

If so, then you probably need to check the audio output setting on both the Samsung and Toshiba players - they should be set to "Bitstream" or "raw". Also, I'm assuming you have them both connected to the Onkyo via HDMI?

i have the same problem so i have contacted onkyo technical support and they are going to send me a cd to get this sorted. They will need your serial number which is a 10 digit number but my receiver has 9 numbers a 1 letter. you can ring them on 01793875753. You can also go on to onkyo's website and see if they have a update to sort this problem of the receiver not been able to decode tru hd you will again need your serial number from the back of the receiver. If your serial number has any letters in it then ring them up as this will be a lot better.

All the best and please reply to this message when you have got it sorted so others may share this problem if you dont mind. In the mean time if i get it sorted i will reply .

PS : The DTS HS MASTER AUDIO will NOT work as ive been told by onkyo as you need a blu ray player which decodes DTS HD MASTER AUDIO as well for it to work, but onkyo are releasing a new player to support the format very soon. Pioneer and panasonic have already released theres already but im waiting for the onkyo as it wil be a perfect match for the receiver.

All the best :)

Are you sure about this? My guess is they mean it needs a Blu-Ray player which can pass DTS HD MA Audio over HDMI as Bitstream, it surely doesn't need to be able to decode it otherwise the amp would have nothing to do!

the samsung bd-p1400 has dd-plus and true hi-def logos on the machine the onkyo has the ability to decode all of this so if i play a blu-ray disc with dd-plus the amp should decode automatically??? im kinda new to all of this new stuff and need some help as the instruction manuals are just a minefield to me : thanx for the tips

And yes, as long as the audio out on the Samsung is set to Bitstream through HDMI, then the amp should receive whichever signal the soundtrack is in and then decode it.

To get the lights to show on the Onk. set the Tosh as follows.

Digital Out SPDIF---> Bitstream

Digital out HDMI---->Auto

Digital Direct Audio Mode----->On

Dynamic Range Control------>Off

Dialog Enhancement------>Off
then you will get the DTS MA and the DD Tru showing.

for the BR player i have no idea.

Nope not from the EP30. Unfortunately this machine dosent send Tru HD or DTS HD MA via bitstream you need the more expensive EP35 for that. Best you can get from the EP30 is Multi PCM via HDMI sorry.
