In light of the new Joanna Newsom triple album (vinyl version due tomorrow), I fished out Sandinista & All Things Must Pass, and pondered the wonder of this rare format.

Any triple disc favourites out there?

The last triple album I bought was indeed "all things must pass" but a friend of mine picked up Madonna's "Hard Candy" triple album on vinyl just the other day, altough it's not a true triple concept album.

I have recently re-activated my Rega turntable after about 15 years of inactivity and one of the first albums I listened to was "Yessongs". I know it is deeply unfashionable these days but I did rather enjoy it .

I saw that Joanna Newsom has a new album out but I didn't realise it was a triple . When I get that I will really alienate the rest of my family as they all hate her music . Something to do with here screechy voice!

The only triples I have are Consequences (Godley & Creme), Welcome back my friends....(ELP) and WIngs Over America.I never bought Yessongs because I thought the recording was too poor, even though the perfomances were good.

Rush - 'All the World's a Stage' (triple cover import) - does that count?

Oh, and 'Archives', their first three records as a set..............

Graham_Thomas:Rush - 'All the World's a Stage' (triple cover import) - does that count? .......Yes, of course. Most of the triples I can think of are live albums,

I preorded the JN album on vinyl and received it last wednesday. It is an absolute cracker. The music is overall less rambling thanYs, the arrangements are more varied, the lyrics are suitably weird and thought provoking and best of all, hardly any sqeaking. I've been playing the air harp all weekend.

This might be a bold call but it is my pick for triple album of 2010

I can understand the aversion to Joanna Newsom's voice. Then again Jon Anderson going for the high notes in Close To The Edge does test one's pain threshold.

I'd overlooked PIL's Metal Box. My copy is a slightly scabby vinyl version in a now rusting tin. I tried to play Poptones a couple of weeks ago but found it unlistenable. Oh, and I think it scared/scarred my two year old.

Yessongs & Metal Box were two much-played triples that bookended my teenage years, and for differing reasons, now seem similarly unlovable. Ah, the passing of time.

I wonder what Proust made of his teenage vinyl collection.

dave_k:Excuse my ignorance, but what's a triple album? Music for people with an attention span longer than 3 minutes.

I have only one triple in my collection which is U.N.K.L.E Never Never Land picture disc.
Haven't come across any for years.

Nurse with Wound - Soliloquy for Lilith

Zoviet France - Popular Soviet Songs and Youth Music

Keith Rowe/Sachiko M/Toshimaru Nakamura/Otomo Yoshihide - ErstLive005

An album spanning three disks.

Surely nothing as obvious as that lol!

A couple of efforts from Prince - "Emancipation" and "Lotus Flower". The usual Pick n'Mix from him.

Santana's "Lotus" album. The Band's "The Last Waltz" and "How the West was Won" - the live spectacular from Led Zep

I have Lotus on CD. I forgot that it was originally a triple.

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi was on 3 discs (only 5 sides of music.)

Not really sure if you can coun't CD era albums that are spread over multiple LPs though. Dance music and electronica albums tend to be cut loud with DJs in mind, so single CD albums can easily stretch to 3 discs or more.
