What a sad place this forum's become... Ridiculing people's religion. And now language skills. What's your Portuguese like, Trevor? Or your Turkish? *sad*

What a sad and barbaric world we live in because so many people believe in marginally differing and derivative barbaric and irrational nonsense about gods, and old translated books that describe in graphic detail how they must murder people like me that call them on it. Ridiculing it is our duty. Check out the atheist bloggers of Bangladesh. People are still being killed for the non-crime of blasphemy because they speak the truth. How sad it is that we have a born again religious lunatic in charge of our schools and a loony homeopathy advocate as health minister.?

?

I didn't know he was Portuguese or Turkish because I'm not psychic. Nobody is.

Not wanting to get into a huge religious debate on a HiFi forum, but, what you say here Trev is very well put and a great point showing the negative extremes of some religions. Originally you said though that Jesus was a joke, and he supposedly preached what you are saying, forgiveness, peace and love. Before him the Bible was very barbaric, an eye for an eye, He changed this by using parables on how to behave in a forgiving way, yet at the same time said he did not come to change the religion, although he clearly did....clever hey! How did he get away with this? Maybe by performing miracles, maybe by being there at the right time, right place, and the revolution was due? Maybe it was just a book. No one yet, has proof of either way. So you can see how some people will be offended when you say the man called Jesus either didn't exist, or was a joke, because he stood for change against barbarism, cruelty, hatred, and narrow mindedness. Qualities that all rational people want to live by (like yourself).

Just my 2 cents. Thank you.
+1 interesting view..cogently put...a fine two cents worth!

The "no proof either way" line is an interesting one. There is no proof either way for the existence or non-existence of the fairies at the bottom of my garden. Does that mean we can't discard them as obvious nonsense? Jesus may have existed, and some of the sayings attributed to him might be accurate, but he reputedly stated that those that didn't believe were to be cast into hellfire for eternity. It's vile and nasty nonsense as far as I can see.

Is this it then Trev? All we have to look forward to is rheumatism and then when we pass to nothingness! Seems a recipe for selfishness..things we loved and have passed on..we will never see again? We start as dust then return to dust and the inbetween bit is just one long jolly!what a miserable existence! I firmly believe that souls go somewhere...the where? Is open to conjecture! So Trevor when you and me cark it! Lol..our souls will whizz out of us like a missile to where? I just hope they have decent hifi there? I reckon it's a iPod set up with tripath amp..and AE reference speakers! Or a load of harps!

I've never had any trouble hearing the large differences between speakers and cartridges but have always found amplifiers to be too similar to worry about. Life is too short. :O)

Thats where you are wrong hellfire is a man made creation used by all other religions long before jesus to scare people into giving money to the church or keep 'good' but jesus never actually said that. So its man abusing religion in christs name you should be aiming these things at. But....... this is a hifi forum to discuss electronics and we must all respect each others view or belief even if we believe it or not thats all.

Considering the overwhelmingly miniscule probability of a sentient existence, at this time, in this place, on a livable planet, enjoying the relative luxury of music and computers, you should be considering your life so far to be an incredible stroke of luck and an amazing privilege!

Who (or what) you choose to thank is up to you (so long as I don't have to be killed for thanking things like physics, chemistry, gravity, entropy and evolution instead).

Trev, the fairies principle is one I keep hearing here and sure, scientifically, if there is no evidence against, you CANNOT state as FACT, that they do not exist. It literally against the whole underlying principle of scientific research. You can only hypothesise to the contrary. If you don't understand this principle, we will be going round in circles, forever, or until Tinkerbell pays us a visit

I would like you to tell me where Jesus said those who don't believe in him will go to hell. I believe you are misinformed or misunderstand. I don't believe he ever said this, in fact his whole teachings were to the contrary. In Mark 16:16 it is written that Jesus said "those who are baptised will be saved, and those who do not believe will be condemned", condemnation is up for interpretation, he does not say " will go to hell". It could be interpreted that in not believing in him, you are walking alone, and will not have the full protection that faith can give. And in this way, you are condemned, to be taunted and less shielded from evil things.?

Anyway, apparently Mark 16:16 is thought by scholars not to be accurate as it was written a long time after the gospel.

So I think before you start criticising a religion, you should maybe do a bit of homework, and perhaps actually read the Bible (new testament), from start to finish, and then you can form a proper based opinion. It's just that I see your opinions on this subject as I'll informed.

I do respect your comments and debate though.

I think this thread needs to be moved to Off Topic because it's never been related to HiFi really, and is increasingly less so every post. What's more it's very clearly a thread where no good will come of it.

Anyhow religion has never been the problem. Intolerance is the problem.

Agreed and +1

Oh and off topic, I believe I still owe you an apology Major for a comment I made in your general direction a few weeks back. I can't remember what it was about, but was meaning to get back. So sorry.

This is it, yes. All there is. Of course you are free to imagine silly things about souls living on and going to heaven, it's a free country. :O)

All human experience is mediated by the brain. We know this. A dead brain can't experience an afterlife.
