Which licks are your top three? Could you please post the name of the Guitarist/Artist?Album som we can explore your choices. Only 3 entries each please (I know it will be hard, I can think of hundreads right now).

Hi Thaiman. Youll know these already but here goes.

1. John Squire (The Stone Roses) - I am the Resurrection

2. Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode

3. Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) - Iron Man

Impossible! But here are as good as any:

1. I'm So Afraid - Fleetwood Mac (Lindsey Buckingham - either 'The Dance' or 'Boston' live albums)
2. Under The Floor Again - The Damned (Captain Sensible)
3. Rough Boy - ZZ Top (Billy Gibbons)

Just spent an hour thinking about this and have decided to avoid the obvious and go for my 5th favourite
Dave Clem Clempson/ Colosseum/ Lost Angeles. (Obvious really) Favourite live track.
then 2 that might make my top twenty
Zal Cleminson / Sensational Alex Harvey Band / Anthem
Alvin Lee /Ten Years After / Love Like A Man LP Version

Try These. 1. Santana [Black Magic Woman] Santana

2.Gary Moore Blues For Greeny

3.Joe Walsh Hotel California

Plus Robert Cray/Eric Clapton/BB King etc etc too many classics and difficult to choose

Tim Bricheno performing on `December` from All About Eve`s `Scarlet And Other Stories`.
Craig Chaquico performing on `Save Your Love` from Jefferson Starship`s `Modern Times`.
John Mitchell performing on title track from Arena`s `The Visitor`.

Heres three off the top of my head, but blimey i can think of loads realy.

Gilmour : Floyd : Comfortably numb : Delicate sound of thunder / pulse.

Page : Zep : Heartbreaker : Zep II.

May : Queen : Brighton rock : Sheer heart attack.

Peter Buck on REM's Country Feedback live in Wiesbaden, also on In Time...*

Robin Fink on There Was A Time by Guns 'N' Roses.* #

Bumblefoot's Guitars Suck. Im counting the whole piece as solo, because i can.*

* There are probably many better choices.

# It might actually be Buckethead. They're both all over that song i think.

Big Chris:Peter Lindgren - Opeth - Deliverance (4:02) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5LmbsVn9vA

Gary Rossington on Free Bird from Pronounced 'leh-'n‚rd 'skin-'n‚rd by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Jonny Greenwood on Paranoid Android from Ok Computer by Radiohead.

Dave Gilmour on Comfortably Numb from The Wall by Pink Floyd.

Ritchie Blackmore, Catch the Rainbow from Live on Stage (in fact most solos from Blackmore)

Very difficult....

Eddie Van Halen - Ain't Talkin Bout Love - Van Halen 1

Jeff Beck - Big Block - Jeff beck's Guitar Shop

Jimmy Page - In My Time of Dying - Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

Not easy, 3 I've picked out of loads that I have are -

July Morning - Uriah Heep - Look at Yourself

Tom Petty - Mary Janes Last Dance (extended version) - don't know album

Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride (extended version) - Live, The Road Goes Ever On

Does seem a shame leaving out Page, Clapton, Slash, Iommi, Alvin Lee etc. etc.

Nils Lofgren- Girl in Motion from Silver Lining

Stevie Hunter/ Edit Richard(abb) Wagner - Intro to Sweet Jane from Rock and Roll Animal (Lou Reed)

Robin Trower - anything off Bridge of Sighs or For Earth Below.

plus many more

Bluetail:

Aynsley Lister, What's It All About from Equilibrium

Good call, I love this guy. Going to see him in December in a double bill with Buddy Whittingham.

Off the top of my head:

Tony McPhee (Groundhogs) - Split Pt 2

Richard Thompson - Season Of The Witch

Randy California (Spirit) - Street Worm

.

Great thread this , I loaded all the tracks I had not heard before or the versions of which I had not got onto a Spotify playlist (There were a couple I could not find) and played them all the other night and very enjoyable it was.
I'm glad I did not pick my top three as someone picked two of them anyway.
It's a shame a few more people did not respond, perhaps we all ought to be allowed to post 3 more each.
