can't believe no-one's mentioned Prince yet.....

Nah, most of his solos were rubbish.

God aka Eric Clapton is another notable abscentee.

EDIT - and Pete Townshend, Keith Richards and Jorma Kaukonen from Jefferson Airplane.

Certainly not the obvious chioce, Prince. Unless watching him live, not many of us even know that he could play guita like ring a bell! Purple rain's solo is pretty good too.

Says a lot about my choice in music I suppose...mostly Funk, but it merges with rock sometimes...hence, the Funkadelic epic 10 minute solo...but there are some real Prince gems out there. Joy In Repetition is definitely one worth looking out...the One Night Alone Live version (it's an official album, not a bootleg) rather than the studio version from Grafitti Bridge, it doesn't have any solo to speak of. The live version is just under 10 mins and has two x 2 mins plus self indulgent solos!

There are plenty other Prince ones, Purple Rain is decent, Let's Go Crazy (a bit cheesey, but still good), Bambi (real early song from the 70s)...once again great live on an official video..Sacrifice of Victor I think it was. Three piece band - Drummer, Bass and Prince on guitar...nowhere for a poor guitarist to hide really. Others include Empty Room, The Ride and She's Always in My Hair...the commercial singles were never the big guitar ones...but there are a few gems tucked away on albums that are really good, then they turn into monsters when he plays them live. Some of his live covers are jaw-dropping too...I can't stop myself going back to performance he did of Hendrix's Machine Gun...

I'll stop going on about Prince now

Bummer, this was on Spotify the other day but no longer so I've added the following to the Spotify playlist

Sometime World by Wishbone Ash, Elephant Man by Bo Diddley and The Life Divine by Carlos Santana & John McLaughlin (two for the price of one !).
