The new gen HD receivers - which company ?

Hi all, Why do we need all the video/picture processing in the receivers if we have great TV's (kuros) and excellent sources ? Isn't this a waste of money on unneccesary stuff ? Are there going to be any receivers that will extract the HD sound etc and give us a better music receiver for the same money ?

I think Big Chris has hit the nail on the head, there's a large majority of people that don't have up to date kit. For them HD receivers are extremely useful, myself included. I have a Toshiba 32WLT66 which What Hi-Fi gave a good review to, a couple of years ago. Compared to 32" LCD's out now at the same pricepoint, it probably doesn't compare very favourably.

I'm personally in the market for a HD receiver so I can (i) get top quality HD audio from my kit once I buy it, and (ii) upconvert my wii from 480p to 720p/1080i.
