Before the dealer visited my humble abode he suggested Usher 10be. But I told him that I want to steer clear of metal dome tweeters. And when he arrives and saw my limited space there's no way I could fit them. He also agree that the MIT Avt MA can stand toe to toe with the TQ graphite!:)

Anything in mind Iceman?

Ah, just reading back, I see your thinking of ProAc/Spendor.

Mac

Its not so easy for me to choose a speaker due to limited space ATM. I will report back after I visit the Bristol Show.

Thanks

I know and completely understand where you are coming from.

FWIW. I am fairly familiar with Focal speakers and have used them at my dealers to expose the differences between amps (including the 35i), due to the revealing nature of the treble...........but i always found it quite a relief to get back to my Refs, which (imo) when combined with the 35i, are not forward, tiring or bright. I also think that MIT cable is probably a little similar to Cardas, in that it is detailed and musical, without being strident.

The Refs also have boundary compensation (gives reasonable tailoring of bass / treble) as well as front firing ports,, both of which make placing them easier.

There was a dealer which I have spoken to by phone couple of days ago and he told me that the KEF refs gives 20% discount if bought new:)

That's a great deal if you like them, and means nothing if you don't.

I think they are fairly "chameleon like", in the sense that they very much take on the sonic characteristics of the upstream equipment ie They can sound smooth and detailed; punchy and neutral; or indeed a little forward.......and during my experimentation, I witnessed most of these presentations.

reporting for dudy.. lol..Yes been to Bristol Show. Don't know where to start but I was expecting some new stuff to be impressed. Well I missed the 2012 so can't comment. To be fair.. I was'nt impressed at all maybe cause the room acoustics is crap!

I have a company with me(my 14 yr old daughter) She is used to my set up playing her fav music which she enjoy. I took her with me. BUT (dad she said ours seems sounds better) . Then we went to Dali -Linn.. dad she told me this is good!

Good to hear from you.

I have found that I have heard few amps, some at several times the price, that come close to the 35i (imo).

Let me know how the speaker hunt goes.

Did you go to the Audio Note room?

Hey Iceman,

did you ever get a chance to listen to the PMC PB1i speakers? I thought I remembered you talking about trying them out.

I'm angling towards borrowing a pair of a local dealer for a home demo.

Think I might go close to doing a swap on my Diablos for a small changeover cost.

Just want to be sure that they are not going to be too big & boomby for my room.

Those on the end of your system would produce some serious scale and be a good match......I suspect you could mitigate the bass issues to a large degree, but you will soon know after a demo.

Hi mate, hope you're well.

Yes they are tempting. Really really enjoying my system at the moment. As I'm getting my CD collection ripped the Akurate is starting to become more central to life.

So I'm not sure if i really need to do the PMC thing, upgrade for the sake of upgrade. Unlike the Scalas i was considering, the changeover cost here should be minimal (maybe nothing given the price I was able to get the Diablos for).

I think they should offer some obvious improvements in the lower end, we'll see.

Keep you posted.

Well, I don't really own a 35i . But I do own a Accuphase a35 (conservatively rated at 30w x 2 class A,clipping at 50w) coupling with c-2420 preamp. I was also a little concerned with the "low power output" of the class Aamp, but after trying with few pairs of speakers, the concern was gone totally(atc scm7,proac d2,spendor a6,spendor1/2 among others). I sold the E460 integrated amp and got the a35 instead.

+1 :)

The only thing I would say is the bass depth and power the PB1i's can deliver on many recordings can come as a bit of a shock if you are not used to it and you may need a period of acclimatisation .

Four bass drivers feeding into two 3.3 meter transmission lines packs a hell of a wallop :)

The AMS amps also seem to produce an extra octave of bass which will add to the shock.

You can't beat a bit of high current delivery ;) my Electro's seem to find an extra octave of bass compared to most amps as well and it is highly addictive . .

Hehehe, being walloped by bass is something I consider myself to be quite acclimatised to >)

Even if my wife & neighbours are less so!

Really enjoying my system, the subs have added the depth to the Diablos that I was missing. Seriously they are brutally revealing, there are times when I just cannot listen to some stuff. Really has opened my ears.

But still having a few issues getting the crossover to work and am wondering if it more trouble than its worth.

Imagine the PB1i's with a pair of subs!! :O

As an aside, I have been having some corespondance with this guy who works for JL Audio & he has shown me pictures of a new active crossover that they will be releasing shortly. Level matches the subs with the fronts & allows you to switchbetween stereo & HT setups with the press of a button. looks like I'll be putting the bryston up for sale soon.

Just curious as to whether the AMS 35i is still being manufactured. MF still lists it on its website but I recall reading posts on this forum to the effect that production has ceased.

You interested in buying one Singslinger?

I found it a tremendous amp, I described it very much like the IA-4 in SQ... just more of everything, but it runs very hot, even more than the Sugden! Had I a bigger listening room, I may have kept it, but, no disrespect to MF, I'm glad I didn't now.

It seems to be on hold until they can do a run of 50, which they think will sell......so it's not discontinued, but you can't get hold of one either - That was what Neuphonix was told when he inquired.
