What a great journey.

He should also include Mastersound 845, Icon Audio MB 845 Sigs and Kef Refs (of course!).

We want updates! :read: ;)

That is an impressive list of some wonderful equipment and speakers that your friend will be listening to but he really should add an Electrocompaniet pre - power to the list of amplifiers for audition ;)

Any chance you can encourage your friend on to the forum to keep us informed? failing that we're relying on you.

BTW, I echo Cno, Electro and Singslinger.

Your wish is my command. AW180 mono blocks and possibly Nemos have been added. Words cannot even begin to describe how excited I am

Good choice  The AW180 mono blocks are superb and the NEMO's are extremely powerful and sound amazing .

I can only imagine how much fun you will be having , please let us all know how it goes in great detail :type:

I am hoping to upgrade my power amp to the AW180's or maybe the AW 400's in the next year or two if all goes well :)

I will post my detailed impressions here of course!

Electro, there seems to be a lot of love for the poweramps, but the Electrocompanietpre amps do not seem to get the same amount of attention. Why is that? I see you've paired them. Do you know people who use other pre amps with their Electro power amps?

To be honest I think the Pre amps especially the EC 4.7 just get taken for granted because they are just completely transparent and don't flavour or colour the sound so there is not much to say about them .

The build quality is superb as you can see in the link below of an internal picture of an EC 4.7 pre . The power supply is larger than a lot of power amps :O

http://www.tophudba.sk/images/gallery/1255-ec4-7-03-gallery.jpg

The power amps work extremely well with most good pre amps but the real magic happens when you put the Electrocompaniet pre and powers together connected via the balanced connections .

I can only think that some people like to slightly change the sound to their taste by using different makes of pre amp a bit like adding a bit of extra spice to taste :)

Most people I know pair the Electro power amps with an Electro pre and then usually end up with an Electrocompaniet source in the end as well , it's an addiction :)

Just a quick one on my brief excursion to audio nirvana (and back :( ) this weekend. I've not forgot about you, but between a crazy week at work and two sick little ones at home, it might be a few more days.

Hi Cno

Have you ever heard the Dynaudio Confidence C2? Well I'm really enjoying my current system atm, but in the near future (upgrade) I want to hear the Confidence C2. At 87db and 4 ohms do you think the AMS 35i can handle them very well?

Thanks

I'm sorry IM, I haven't.

I suspect they will be brilliant, but very (very) different to Focal (it's more in the SF Amati Futura camp).....just make sure that mixed with the 35i, they don't overwhelm the room with bass (not a problem if you have plenty of space).

I would say the 35i would manage provided you aren't running a night club. The amp likes sensitive speakers (89dB) with a low impedance (4 Ohms), which makes the most of it's current ability.....though you should get a second opinion and listen for yourself.

I would also suggest Kef Refs as a happy medium between Focal and Dynaudio......and imo would sound glorious on the end of your system! :shifty:
