Thx PP......I'm on here trying to take my mind off tomorrow (8AM - first on the table!!! :( )

Cheers Mac.....

You'll probably be hearing more about how I'm getting on, than is good for you....as, for a month or two, I'll have little else to do but annoy folks!

regarding the beresford box, I probably won't end up using it full time, but part of this process has always revolved around the (misguided?) desire to somehow integrate the AV system with the hi-fi system with one common set of speakers. It was this that was a driving force in going with an integrated amp in the first place.

3) Speaker box. More convenient in many ways but questionable in terms of SQ & certainly makes buying hi-end speaker cables much more difficult, indeed may even make it pointless.

I may be wrong, but Im pretty sure I read on the Beresford website that the beresford box you refer to has a maximum current capacbility which will be (quite a lot) less that your AMS jobbie can produce.

I would hate for aything else to go up in smoke :)

Oooh, thanks Greg

Just checked their website & it doesn't provide any specifics as to max load? Just says "high current handling capacity".

I guess that i had just assumed because it was a passive device (no pwer supply) that it would be fine. ie simply acted as a switch rather than actually altered or process the signal in any way.

Will send them an email to ask, I'll post their response when I hear back.

Thanks again for the heads up, much appreciated

Hi Mac

Yes I just received the EMC 1 UP today :). But I won't be able to share my thoughts yet cause the xlr cable the dealer sent with it is faulty |(. He'll sent me another pair so Ill share my findings on thursday.

At the moment Im using unbalanced rca(chord anthem) which sound pretty damn good. I never expected that it weighs a ton and very solidly built. The first thing I noticed was the EMC 1Up and AMS 35i makes my speakers behave as they should but not losing the detail and punch.

It certainly is a bit of a beast of a machine!

Pity about the faulty XLr though... you will certainly notice a difference with them connected... which brand will you be using?

Remind me, what speakers do you Have?

I take it you managed undoing all the transit screws alright?

Cheers

Hope you received the XLR's today Iceman.

Give us an update as soon as you can.

Hi Mac

Yes..just received them this morning. There were two pairs sent to me (Chord anthem2 and MIT avt proline). I finally settled down to the MIT cause they sounded more natural and balanced.

The difference bet. rca and balanced xlr is really noticeable. More headroom and the dynamics and soundstage is just staggering. The EMC 1Up plays music with total control even at higher volume level. There's no hint of brightness and the fluidity and finesse of the vocals makes me wonder if there are valves or tubes inside the machine.

The bass is rock solid but controlled in a right manner and does'nt overwhelm. The EMC 1UP does'nt shout at you and with less sibilance compared to the Naim cdx2 I used to own. My speakers just sound as the way I like which I never thought they will. The first cd I played was Acoustic Alchemy(the best of) and the timbre of each instrument was jaw-dropping lifelike. Followed by Diana Krall's (frim fram sauce) where She's like singing in front of me while Im sipping a glass of wine.

From jazz to metal..the EMC 1UP did'nt dissappoint:rockout:

Funny enough, I had a CDX2 myself, before the EMC1UP and you've described the difference spot on.

It replays music with such natural timbre, whereas the Naim could come across quite harsh and digital in comparison.

Personally, I can't see myself changing players for years to come.

I wouldn't go back to using RCA between CDP and amp... the difference is incredible... I will check out the MIT XLR's.

Enjoy!

Mac

I just had to comment on MIT cables. Just got a pair of the CVT balanced interconnects for my DAC to amp connection. I'm using with Matrix 28 speaker cable. I'm sold on MIT. Spectacular on low level detail and timbre reproduction. And I can turn the volume up too!

i am using a rather inexpensive Cambridge 350C as a transport and appreciate your observations on the Naim and Electrocompaniet. It may be with the right CDP I would not need the DAC.

Nice thread is becoming...also been very impressed when we used the EC cd player for Rob's demo of Avalon :)

Cno, glad you are back and sorry for not wishing you good luck before but I have been far a little bit from hi-fi scene as a few little problems to fix!

Alex my friend, I took that "as read".

@Iceman
Your clever choices and attention to detail has bagged you a truly wonderful system. The only possible area for improvement are the speakers...Avalon or Utiopia range!! :shifty:

Nb. Don't pay any heed, as I'm on heavy medication!!
