Dont want to turn this into a AVI thread sorry OP but quick question to ADM owners.

Is it possible to buy 2 slave ADM and use those with my existing dac and preamp ? if so how much cheaper would that be.

Ive got 12 preamps and 4 dacs ect so dont need the internal dac and pre of the AVIs.

Out of interest why do you have so many pre-amps?

If you want to use your own DAC and pre-amp you can plug then into the analogue inputs on the ADM's.

My main source is Gyrodec Garrard 401 or SME20 so dont need speakers with onboard dac so just wondered if there was a cheaper version of just plain actives is all.

They don't make just slave versions of the ADM's.

I doubt that they would be much cheaper though because the DAC and pre-amp sections are relatively cheap compared to the drivers, amps and enclosures.

NP Steve as i said ill wait and see how the Westlake amps are but if i go for something active its most probably be PMC or ATC.

If you do consider actives give Quested a go too (if you can live with the way they look). IMO Quested are better value for money than either ATC or PMC.

Thanks.🙂

With a 5k budget you could make a great DIY system

This amp cost a grand

then maybe another 1.5 for the WAD preamp and phono stage and psu.

Thes speakers cost only about 300 or so for the kit

I would agree, £5k would get you just about all the hifi you could want in the DIY world, even if you specified exotic speaker drivers.

There are quite a few speaker types that are not really catered for in the commercial market.

Obviously, the downside is that its not really plug-and-play which some people might want if they were spunking £5k on a hifi.
