Subwoofer or AV Receiver problem?

Hi,

I have an old B&W PV1 subwoofer (I still like it), but it regularly pops then stops working, however when I turn the receiver off and on again it starts working. As I don't need to touch the sub to get it working, does this mean it's the receiver? Or is it a subwoofer issue?

B&W will repair the sub for £150 but I just want to check its not the receiver before I send it off. I have checked all the connections and none have come loose.

Thanks,

John

I can't imagine any issue arising from the AV receiver making just the sub cut out other than the gain for the sub channel is too high - what is the sub output level on the receiver? Ideally, this shouldn't be above 0dB, particularly if you like watching films quite loudly.

As for the sub, does this happen on loud sections, or just anytime? It could be that you're asking the sub to do too much, and it shuts down to protect itself.
