I am on Apple Music too and with my now ex Apple AirPod Max 2 headphones using the USB-C cable I could hear a difference.

Very little, if any, even on what I consider to be very good equipment. I certainly think any difference there is, is overstated.

Yes, you can hear the difference but a good master with lossy audio sounds better than a crappy master in lossless format. Same with lossy audio via a proper hifi-set, versus lossless audio via in-ears in a noisy environment. So it al depends on the end-to-end chain.

Unless you've got the mastering info to hand, it's a crapshoot. The streaming services don't get to pick, they get what they're given from the labels.

So, when you're listening to the crappy 2007 Genesis remixes and not the Analogue Productions SACD reissues (assuming they're still not available outside of a physical release), that's why.

Years ago, after being using Spotify kind of a on the side way to find new music(their suggestions of music was actually really good) and buying the CDs or downloads(Bandcamp mostly, but also other services)I´ve tried Tidal and never looked back. The difference, using the same equipment, was clear and obvious.
Since about 2 years, I´ve moved to Qobuz. Not because of the sound quality, although some say say it´s better, but because I boycot american products and services as much as possible.

Streaming sound technical and political issues aside, which master of the same music you listen(or own) to, is of much more importance.
There´re examples of new masters and even mixes being an improvement, unfortunately, most are not.

This. It's why some LPs sound better than some CDs. And vice versa.

Though some - who haven't heard hundreds of LPs and hundreds of CDs - will categorically state otherwise.
