Hi,

I was thinking about getting a pair of these stands and noticed they came with top spikes as well as carpet spikes. My speakers are currently stood on some polipods to try and isolate them from the cr*ppy Ikea TV bench they're currently sat on.

My question is, should I use the top plate spikes on the stands or use the polipods between the top plate and the speakers? Which do people think would give better results?

I use neither, but just good old blu tac, which in my opinion, is the best option between the three.

I wouldn't knock Ikea and I've had the speaker stands you mention and i don't think they come with speaker spikes for the speaker end so as valian says blu tak them.

Be careful with blutac; I was recently moving some Mission 780s for my grandmother only to find that they had been blutac'd to the stands for about 20 years - when I finally managed to seperate stands and speakers the mess on the bottom of the speakers was terrible!

That's what I'd like to avoid. I also noticed that atacama stands come with the option of gel pads instead of spikes on the top plates which look similar to polipods so I was wondering which was best.

I've just bought a set of black Z2s. They came with the speaker spikes as you mention, but also come with little rubber/gel pads for if you don't want to use the spikes. I ended up ditching both and used bluetac!

I used to use blu tac too, when I had my standmount speakers, and I never had an issue with damaged speakers as a result of this.

A cheap, practical and highly effective solution.
