Hello,

would appreciate opinion on the use of Harman Kardon Soundsticks (lll)

Looking for a reasonable sound solution to a PC in the front room & considering these. Have had a quick listen, to the mark 2 version & was initially impressed. However, past experience with a 2.1 speaker system (Logitech) though exceptable detail & lower end frequency, the all important mid range was lacking; hence l'm concerned that this may be the case with the Soundsticks.

The other alternative is to go down the external dac/amp/speakers route, though l didn't want to take up the space in this particular room.

The Harman Kardon website claims that the soundsticks can "fill the room" & would take over as an audio source. Reasonable claim?

I have the mark 2 version and have to say, they are very impressive speakers considering their size - at one point in the summer I actually used them as an emergency source of music for a party in my friend's garden - though they certainly didn't "fill" the garden, they did an impressive job of providing some background music.

Thank you for the response.

In house listening, what do you think of the mid range?

Have a look at these:

Alesis M1Active 520 USB

The non USB version got a good review in Sound On Sound magazine. They even have a headphone output on the front.

As I remember, they were very good, though I have to say, I couldn't say how they would compare with speakers of equivalent money today as I bought them well over 5 years ago now.

The Audioengine A2s are also worth looking into - I have them in my kitchen and, for their size, they are excellent.

l like the look & idea of the active Alesis speakers. Look flexible & an "all in one sulution"

Do you know if it's just a case of a USB cable from PC to speaker?

Any idea of the size?

chesterfieldhouse:Do you know if it's just a case of a USB cable from PC to speaker?Yes. You don't even need to install any drivers.

chesterfieldhouse:Any idea of the size? No. They use 5" bass drivers so should be similar to small bookshelf speakers.

For more information download the manual from the Alesis website.
