I have now purchased 2 Sets of these headphones. Both have fallen victim to the same fault. The WF C500's bought in 2023 failed in May 2024. The right channel became muffled and then could not heard at all. Exactly the same issue has occured with the WF-C700N's I purchased to replace them in June 2024. With both pairs I received around 10 months of working service. These Sony's are always well reviewed in What Hi-Fi and initially those reviews bear scutiny in the first few months of use. However, this same failure has put me off ever buying Sony headphones again, at any price.

All attemps to reset the headphones following instructions on the Sony website yielded no positive results. Sony's website has been cunningly designed to really annoy the customer. So many hoops and hurdles must be navigated to seek a return of goods under warranty. The AI Chat bot will first sap your resolve to continue the process. If suffciently provoked you will continue to discover the onus is on you as a customer to prove a fault and then post the non functioning buds to an authorised centre of their choosing for judgement to be delivered. As the headphones are now well below £100 to purchase new it is not economic for Sony to repair the faulty Buds, but they make the 12 month Warranty appear absolutely worthless with such a laborious returns procedure. A quick search on Google would suggest I am not alone in this experience. Not everyone will be unlucky and their headphones may give them years of enjoyable fault free service. For some though, this flawed reliablity and obstructive warranty practice will be an effective deterent for future buying of Sony headphones. I'm curious to find if others have had similar experiences with these Sony's?
