Re: Irish prices. Recently bought a few bits from www.soundsolutionshifi.com (in Gorey, Co.Wexford) check the price difference between them and www.Peats.ie for a NAD C515BEE CD player (?179.99 vs ?299 !!!!).
I'd recommend sending them an email (they stock more than they have on the site) and they usually reply very quickly. They have a nice showroom too, 1 hour from Dublin, well worth a spin.
And just in case anyone asks I've no connection to 'soundsolutionshifi' other than being a happy customer.

@ Marvsins, im living in Dublin,

@ Octopo, not wanting to diss any retailer in particular heres my experiences: I purchased a Jamo A102HCS online from UK £215/275Euro- same model, spec etc,on sale from Smarttech.ie for 425Euro/£335,

Also got Sony STR-DG710 online from UK £180/228Euro-same model spec etc, on sale from Peats.ie 330Euro/£260,

Also the Sony DA1200 from UK £230/291Euro on sale in Peats.ie 520Euro/£410-thats not a typo error!

Now i can get the Sony STR-DG820 from UK for £280/354Euro- on sale from SonyCentre 395Euro/£310

Now dont get me started on the costs of the BluRays.................

If I were you. I'd plan a holiday to the lake district and factor in a shopping trip at the same time!

Thank you for that link Gregory. I dont see any DG820s but I will email them and ask them will they be getting some in.

I see they have the Onkyo TX-SR606 for ?499 (thats £390 at todays rate). That is cheaper than most stores in the UK.

For the speakers prcdirect.co.uk deliver to ire. Am waiting for them to get back to me with a price for postage.

Well I rang sound solutions in Gorey. They dont really do Sony stuff so they rang me back with a price. The DG820 ?435
emotion-3.gif
Told her that that was ?115 more than most selling in the UK.

Asked her about the speakers. The Jamo A102 set ?399. 'What' I said. Then she said she could do them for ?350. Thats still way more expensive (?75 more) than most UK resellers.

The Onkyo 606 they are selling for ?499 seems a good bargain though. I am gone off the Onkyo for a few reason; one being both my glass shelves are 200mm.

@ boopolo you get the Jamo A102HCS here www.audiovisualonline.co.uk for £225-290Euro, an absolute bargain, there excellent to deal with, i received mine within days.

also, get the Sony STR-DG820 here www.superfi.co.uk for ££280-360Euro- not that great of a saving as the Sony Centre will order it in for you for 400Euro, i had this receiver on order but cancelled after waiting weeks for the Sky fix, good to deal with no problems with me cancelling,

Both these deliver to Ireland and were excellent to deal with.............

I decided on the Onkyo 606 in the end (got one from dealer in Germany for 425Euro deliverey incl) and i hav'nt stopped smiling since

How do you know when ordering if you will receive an "updated" 820 with the Sky issue resolved?

Also, if buying one of these amps does anyone recommend one of the following which are similar in price:

Jamo A102HCS5

or

Keg KHT1005

or

Tannoy SFX5.1

Thanks

Id say if you buy from a reputable dealer, like any of the two i mentioned, you should have a 'fixed' one,

These were only on sale for a couple of weeks (possibly days) when the Sky issue arose, and then there was a freeze on supply, as you could'nt get one for love or money.............

They seem to be flowing back to dealers so id say you'd be safe enough picking one up now........................

Thankyou Torres.

I was on audiovisualonline website before. They do not deliver electrical outside the UK mainland. This includes speakers.

Richersounds in Belfast can get a DG820 for the same price (£249) as Superfi (£249+£30 p&p). Anything on their UK site can be got on their Irish site or in the store in Belfast, so I collect it from there.

Having said that I now have my eyes set on a 2400ES
emotion-10.gif
. But they dont have it in stock yet.

. Neither has Superfi

@boo, i just got my Jamo's from audiovisual in May of this year? I just checked there website and they defo do deliver to Ireland, they have a drop down box to select delivery options and that includes Rep of Ireland........

@torres, Will check them out for that, maybe they used to in May; but not now.

Their site now states: Unfortunately, due to the lack of shipping insurance for overseas orders we can now only supply UK mainland addresses with electrical and large av furniture items. Any orders placed will be automatically refunded if they include electronics or furniture (this includes speaker systems) @ http://www.audiovisualonline.co.uk/page/delivery

...would suggest that you can still order, but it will be cancelled and you will get a refund. Will email them and ask for sure. Don't want them taking money from my cc and returning it a week later.

Regards

Boo

Torres, Thank you once again for your reply.

Yes I agree Torres. It seems a lot of them do not mind delivering free to the UK Mainland, but dont want to to go to the trouble of sending stuff by insured courier even though we are willing to pay for it.

Richersounds have a few sets of Tannoy EFX5.1's in silver only at half price (£150). They are the same as newer SFX5.1's internally, I do beleive. What do you think? Richersounds said to me anything they sell in the UK can be got in their Belfast store for the same price.

Am tempted to get the DG820 from them, but I think I will hold out for the DA2400ES. It is only 70mins drive to Belfast now.

These got a 5 star rating when they came out and i have heard them ...................there a cracking speaker system

I hav'nt heard the Tannoy's so cant comment....................

Yes they are cheap. Not sure I like the 'eggs' though.

You mention 'PEATs'. I dont even think of them. They seem to use the numbers in a telephone directory for some oftheir prices. They also have the franshise of all the Sony shops in Dublin City.

But the Sony Centre in Liffey Valley is not part of this franshise. I went in there yesterday and they had a Sony DA2400ES. Price was arounf ?650.
emotion-39.gif
. Asked what was the best price he said would have to call next day when the managr was in. Told him I could get for less than £400 (?514) in Belfast.

He replied: 'Ah yes, but thats Belfast'

I said: 'And?....'

Silence. Smile from the other assistant. I said I would expect to pay the diference in VAT extra (4%).

Not in a real big hurry, although would like to get in about 3 weeks time when I get back from my holidays to Spain.

Thats just the problem with these dealers here, its the 'And' and 'So' reply when you challenge or query them on prices.........

No such thing as price match over here.....also i just quoted Peats as their the cheaper of 2 lousy options............the same KEF package are 600Euro from Munstersounds.ie !!!!

The boys in the UK dont know how lucky they 'ave it..........Price Match, Listening Rooms, Free Shipping, etc,etc...........need i go on

Oh the guys here do know. The assistants in the shops are really frustrated cause management dont allow them to sell at competitive prices. They are hearing people like me every day of the week. That is why the shop is nearly always empty. Oh; BTW, Sony Centre in Liffey Valley is owned by hificorner.ie.

I rang them, and the best they could do was ?600. And that was for the display model.

They said they never heard about the problem with Sky or anything about a firmware upgrade.
