OK, so ive got a Philips 42PFL7422D, PS3, Toshiba HD EP30, Jamo A102HCS and Sony STR-DG710 Receiver,Im going to get either of the above Receiver's, however what would be more suited to my set-up?

With both getting 5 star reviews, i cant decide which one to get- Sony has 4HDMI- no upscaling........Onkyo only 2 HDMI-upscales....

As i dont have SKY, the HDMI switching wont be a problem for the Sony, also i can get either for the same price 400Euro,

Any advice much appreciated

First of all, great name! Are you a Red or Spanish?

Have you not thought about the Onkyo 606 as it has more hdmi connections and is a similar price to the 605?

Out of the two, so would I, I reckon (though I'd probably go have a listen of both first to make sure).
As your team mate says though, don't rule out the 606...

Thanks for the reply lads, Yes im a Reds fan! Also as i live in Ireland (Which i might add is a total rip-off where Electronics, Cables, BluRays, are concerned) Onkyo 606 will cost approx 650Euro and im on a bit of a budget- well thats what the wife told me!- so looks like the 605................

Also i dont have the privilage to listen to them before buying them...............over here its either a case of you want it or you dont.......boooooooo

However i do have your good knowledge, advice and expertise to guide me.......

Hi, just seen your questions. For me personally it has to be the Onkyo 605 or ideally the 606.

You could buy from NI at £399 or I've seen a couple on eBay for similar. Either way it's definately cheaper than buying locally by the sounds of it!

Enjoy it when you get it!

Never considered the Denon 1909? It beat the Onkyo 606 recently...

Don't forget that the 605 doesn't actually upscale. It upconverts the signal to make it progressive but it doesn't increase the number of pixels. Upscaling was added on the 606.

there has been a lot of reports that say the 605 outputs a loud buzz when playing blu ray discs on a ps3 which is why i went for a 820.

it also seems to happen with a lot of onkyo receivers and ps3

Ahhhh.............decisions decisions!!!! Can anybody shed some light on this hummmm issue, and the heating issues ive read about on the Onkyo? I'll be using it for BluRays/DVD's playback mostly

Also have to rule out the Denon and 606 as im on a tight budget .....................thats not by choice!

i's go for the 820.sony has better built quality, and for music is also good.leave the upscaling to the player .its easyer to upgrade player later than the amp.

All I've seen on this so far is a lot of speculation. It certainly doesn't affect my 905. I think it's a limited (and fixable) issue that's been blown out of proportion due to the number of Onkyo's which have been sold.

Although i have read reviews on here for both recievers,i have just ordered the 820 mainly due to the fact that i want to get digital plus, dts hd and dolby true hd out of my blu-rays,and currently i cannot as my current amp is the onkyo 506[which is a great sounding amp too] I think it is quite important to actually buy home cinema that is specific to your needs, however dont misunderstand me,the onkyo 606 is very highly rated,of course, but perhaps if there is a similar model that not only suits your needs, but also acheives 5 stars in a what hi fi review then it cannot be dismissed!,especially if you can also save a few pounds in the process! The reason i didnt go for the onkyo was mainly due to price[why should i pay more, when a similar model will suit me fine?],and also the onkyo is feature crammed, and perhaps some of those features i will never use! I also like sony's reliability- i have bought their products for years and never [touch wood!] had a problem!

@ Marvsins, im living in Dublin,

@ Octopo, not wanting to diss any retailer in particular heres my experiences: I purchased a Jamo A102HCS online from UK £215/275Euro- same model, spec etc,on sale from Smarttech.ie for 425Euro/£335,

Also got Sony STR-DG710 online from UK £180/228Euro-same model spec etc, on sale from Peats.ie 330Euro/£260,

Also the Sony DA1200 from UK £230/291Euro on sale in Peats.ie 520Euro/£410-thats not a typo error!

Now i can get the Sony STR-DG820 from UK for £280/354Euro- on sale from SonyCentre 395Euro/£310

Now dont get me started on the costs of the BluRays.................

Indeed we do-but even there expensive! Im still undecided on which one to get-my choice changes hourly.....

Clare/ Andrew, will the Sony 820 and Onkyo 606 be included in the new receiver review (for the next issue) you mentioned on another thread? That could well be when i decide............

Hi Torres09, Im looking into getting the Sony STR-DG820 and the Jamo A102HC Speaker setup... can you tell me where you bought your speakers as any UK site i have seen don't deliver to Ireland???....

If you/anyone can recommend any sites for both that would be a help.

Thx.

Hi Guys

I am in Ireland also.

I waited have until Sony brought out the upgrade (the sky issue) on the DG820. It is mainly because I have Sky HD and only one hdmi socket on my TV. I also have a PS3 320GB with lots songs and movie clips stored on it. Have standard slingbox, but that won't count as its just connected to my LAN and skyHD box.

I was following the tread where Andrew (thank you Andrew) was updating us on the Sky + DG820 problem. It seems although they are now able to fix his 2400 in a matter of minutes (probably firmware upgrade), those that had a DG820 will have to go back with unit and get a free replacement.

But as the new updated DG820s have overcome the sky problem I want one.

I am also wanting to buy the Jamo A102HC Speakers.

I have looked online and see that Pixmania have the DG820 at ?399 (about £312 at todays rate) +?15.90 p&p, but is not in stock yet. Wonder why they are so expensive.

I have looked at several UK sites for the Jamo speakers but I have not found one that deliver to Ireland. Most are about £215 but wont deliver to Ireland.

Ideally I wold like to buy the DG820 & Jamo speakers from the one supplier, but if not from two different companies.

Has anybody any ideas where I can buy and get delivered to Ireland.

Boo
