sony rdrhxd970 recording via the digital epg. is the signal for the start of the program and the end of the program 100 % reliable. i lost the end of 2 recordings that had the epg link on. also a programe with series link on recorded the wrong channel but had the right title. this a new dvr recorder so dont know if it is faulty or not.

Sounds more like a problem in the EPG data being sent to the recorder. Worth a check with your retailer or Sony to see whether this is a known problem - they're usually solved with a download over the air, so if it is a problem there may be a fix on the way.

If not - and as you can see no-one else seems to be reporting the problem yet - it might be worth returning the unit and trying another one. Again the Sony support people will be able to advise.

Just to let you know that (as mentioned on another thread on this forum) AV Forum has a very lively thread running about this very subject, worth a look:

There is a concerted campaign by some people on that thread to contact Sony on their freephone number and get a reference number for each machine with the EPG link problems so they have to examine the fault properly... I bought a 970 just after they came out (pre WHSV review) and have had the same problems with series linked and epg linked recordings.
