Does anyone know what the settings/or how to set-up the SonyBDP-S370 to display 1080@24fps on my Pioneer PDP--427XD...I know my screen is not full HD but it will except that resolution. I have no problems with the PS3 and my previous Blu-ray players the Pioneer BDP51FD and Pioneer BDP-320.

I got this player for a very reasonable £82.24 from Costco. But if it won't do 1080p@24fps, I might just going back to my Pioneer.

Many thanks in advance.

But it has accepts 1080p@24fps from the PS3 with blu-ray and from previous Blu-ray players.

A blue box appears in the top right hand corner saying 1080p/1080i etc.

I can't find anything on the net......Should I stick with it at 1080i or revert back to the pioneer Blu-ray?

The screen is either 'HD Ready' (720p) or full HD (1080p)

The S370 will output 1080P (and the display will tell you this) but the TV will only show 720P if it is HD Ready

The screen is only 'HD Ready' but it will accept a 1080p@24frps signal.

When I play a Blu-ray through the PS3,the blue box in the right had corner says 1080p and also when I've used a Pioneer blu-ray player the same box appears. But with the 370 it only shows 1080i.

Why would the PS3 do this, But the 370 won't??

I've looked at the Sony BDP-S370 manual, and the relevant pages are p19-p20.

There are two separate settings you need to enable on the Sony player. Firstly, under the HDMI output video format option, you have the choice of 'original resolution' (so your Pioneer will handle all up- or downscaling of picture) or 'auto' (where the Sony will handle scaling).

Secondly, under the Blu-ray settings, you have a choice of 'Auto' or 'off' for the 1080p/24fps output. Choose auto and it should output in 1080p/24fps.

Can't help with your query, but i would appreciate your opinion on how the sony 370 compares with the other players you have previously used, ie PS3, Pioneer 51FD/320. Why change ?

With all the the positive reviews and comments and a very tempting price of £82.24, thought I'd give it a go.

The fat PS3 for me and the wife was a disappointment blu-ray wise. We'd had a Denon 1940 DVD player and it was fantastic player.

We then moved onto the Sony BDP-S350 for a while and it was a marked difference but I still wasn't truly happy.

So I invested in the Pioneer 51FD which we then felt Blu-ray had finely arrived.Picture and sound were a really step up in performance.

Only went for the 320 because of the slow start-up times and loading times of the 51FD. Picture and sound were very even between the two.

Only had the Sony for a day and not really had time to test it out properly yet,but first impressions are very good.

To my ears the sound is better, which came at a real surprise and the picture looks like it has a little more depth.but i'll have to have play with the setting and tweek them to my taste.
