Currently I'm am enjoying music in office through the following system:

1. iPod touch - mainly with Apple Lossless files;

2. Arcam irDock - to connect the iPod;

3. Pro-Ject Head Box II - an headphone amplifier;

4. Grado SR325is headphones.

Question is:

1. When Project has volume control set to maximum the sound quality is excellent. I can control volume from the iPod (e.g. using the irDock remote control) and sound remains excellent at all volume levels.

2. However, if I turn volume down in Project I start hearing noise even if the iPod is in pause.

3. It does not bother me as along as I can leave Project set to maximum volume at all times and control volume at the iPod / irDock but I would like to understand the fundamentals of this.

Thanks, Pedro

Anyone understands why do I have to keep the amp at maximum sound volume and control volume only from the iPod / irDock?

Thanks.

Sorry for insisting but I have jut found more info that may help a diagnosis...

If I cover (at least one of) the audio out interconnects of the headphone amplifier, even with my fingers, noise stops at all volume levels.

Anyone has a clue?

Thanks, Pedro
