I have a 4 year old Onkyo TXNR809 which is great AV reciever however a couple of times I have turned it on and there has been no sound at all! After do some research online this seems to be quite a common fault with Onkyo recievers. The problem is only done this two or three times in last month so how will they find this out ?

I am thinking that I don't want this reciever any more as warranty will run out in a year and this is my 2nd 809 as first one I purchased was faulty

What do you guys think ?

i would take it back to were you got it from as richer sounds are very good at taking stuff back i would just say this one is having issues too and i want to change it for some other av amp and i am sure they would let you change it but just look at the small print first just in case i am wrong but as long as you have the box and everything that came with the av amp when you got it i can not see an issue here

I know Richer sounds have great Customer service I always buy any electrical items from them, but the reciever is 4 years old now so that will be pushing it even by there standards. maybe I will go to the store tomorrow.

They may not refund the whole amount, and may deduct a fair value considering you used the product for 4 years. Speak to them and see what they say.

Today I took my unit back to Richer Sounds in Guildford to be sent off to Gen Serve who repair Onkyo in the UK, They will have it for a month to try and find out what is wrong with it.

I was given a loan unit of a Pioneer VSX930 Which when they surgested this was slightly worried it would sound awful and be under powered. After sorting out all the settings the last person left in it which took over a hour to sort who does not use HDMI cables in this day and age. sounded pretty poor then I did the macc set up and transformed this little reciever I cant believe how good it is for the money under 300 quid. Does not have the authority of the Onkyo but awesome for the money, I think I will deffently look at a Pioneer Reciever as a replacement now.

I have always purchased all my AV bit and pieces from richer sounds infact I spent most of my first pay packet in there buying a CD Player back in 1986

I have always found there customer service to great hence why I shopped their for the last 30 Years. I do feels this time, However that I am banging my head against a brick wall, as it is a intermitant fault not sure they will find what is wrong with it !

I will have to wait until they have finished with it and see what they say ? Needless to say if I dont get a satisfactory out come I wont be purchasing anything else there.

It's the first Pioneer AV receiver off the production line following Onkyo's acquisition of Pioneer's AV division last year. Perhaps more Pioneer than Onkyo, although Onkyo must've done the quality control checks.

You did mention they gave you a lead time of 1 month.

Yes Big Boss you are indeed correct they did say up to a month, but should be back before then!

I just want to know if they found fault with the reciever, as I have said before because it is a interminttent fault and they are the hardest to find.

Thank you John for your kind offer I will email you the details.
