Was that on The Headrow - a way up from a Virgin Megastore? I spent a single year at Uni in Leeds - great fun but no work done, hence the year going unrepeated.
Yep the little store on the Headrow opposite St John Centre, before they moved to the bigger premises. That store really was like the catalogue used to say "Tiny shops packed floor to ceiling to keep prices low." I've not actually been to the bigger store.

The London Bridge store famously held the world record for most retail sales value, per square foot.
That record was apparently still held in 2023 - not sure if it still is.

One of my closest branches was Chelmsford - but that actually closed - doubt they've closed many (if any) other branches since 1978.

Ah real shame it's closed. I use to bunk off school with mates, it was a 20 minutes walk.
I learnt more about the science of audiology than anything that was taught at school.
Mind you I never bunked off at social science. Our forward thinking teacher always taught us sex lessons and I recall sitting next to the girl I fancied and giving her weird glances.

👍 London Bridge, the original Richer shop - where I bought my HD 590.....longer ago than I care to think about:

Nice. You kept them well Gray.
I got my Beyerdynamic Amiron ex-demo on eBay, Focal Elegia replacement. These more suited to tubes. Really great headphones Although rated at 250 ohm, my SingXer head amp has no problem driving them.
Speaking of Richer Sounds, they're selling the Amirons at greatly reduced price.

I'm a big fan of Richer Sounds. Purchased a number of components over the years (Kingston, Guildford or Reigate branches). My Dalis was purchased from them. I demoed them twice, the second time against the Amphion Argon 1s I blagged from another dealer. They were happy to accommodate me.

Keep it up, RS.

I think my best bargain from RS was my Yamaha DSP-AX761 7.1 Channel AV receiver. Bought 2008. We had them in at work retailing at £600, we'd bought 6 as part of our 2007 stocking plan and hadn't sold a single one in 12 months. I asked one of the directors for a staff price and was told "the cheapest we can do is what we paid for them £300".
I jumped into my car after work, drove to the Prestwich branch and got one for £220.
Like an earlier post said the prices aren't the bargains they once were but the whole experience of going into a RS branch is brilliant.

I'll show my age now. I started work in 1979 in the London Bridge area. Over on London Bridge Walk was a shop called Richer Sounds that had all this bargain hi fi, it had only opened the year before. I remember being served by this little guy who turned out to be Julian Richer. I bought lots of gear from them over the years although the Brighton store is now my nearest location. I got my new Marantz cd player from them earlier this year so I guess I must be one of their oldest customers :)
